Introduction: Lessons in classical violin and/or Irish and "American"-style fiddling by young award-winning, classically trained violinist/violist. I specialize in teaching adult beginners/amateurs with busy schedules who want to play socially or solely for personal enjoyment and in teaching children who have become disenchanted with their current routine and wish to supplement or rework their Suzuki/classical studies. I will come to your apartment/workplace, or you may come to a midtown location where I rent studio space. I offer semi-weekly, as needed, and other non-traditional schedules available, as well as gift certificates for the hesitant violinist in need of persuasion! Here are some reviews from my current and past students: "Caitlin is a fantastic teacher. She's patient and encouraging while helping you build your technique from the ground up, mastering each song as you go. The hard songs become easy in no time at all." - Meghan "I've been taking violin and fiddle lessons with Caitlin for a couple of months and I've enjoyed every single lesson. I am a classical trained violinist who used to play seriously in high school, but slowly started playing less and less because of college and work. Taking lessons with Caitlin has been such a pleasure. I love that I can work on classical violin and Irish fiddle in one lesson. I strongly recommend Caitlin, she is very knowledgable and knows how to make learning the violin and fiddle a wonderful experience. I can't even express how happy I am that I found her." - Katherine "I love having Caitlin for a teacher. I've been with her for four years and I think she's probably taught me 100 tunes by now! She's patient and kind, her technique is excellent (she's kept me from bad habits), and she's flexible in the way that she teaches---she knows that the same methods don't always work with everyone, so she is always searching for the explanations that work best with me. Caitlin is also an excellent role model because she plays out in sessions and performances in NYC all the time, so I love to go and watch her play, or join her in a session. She is an amazing musician, a caring teacher, and a wonderful person, and I am very happy to have found her." - Sharon "Caitlin is always a pleasure; she will employ any method to best help you learn, with the added bonus of being approachable ,endearing, and a magnificent artist to boot! If I did not have Caitlin, I would have given up on violin. Her expertise and encouragement helps me to become a better musician every day." - Catherine "I have been working with Caitlin since I purchased my violin in Feb. 2012. She was recommended to me by the violin shop along with several others. After I took my first lesson with her, I never bothered with calling the others. As an older student (over 50) who decided to learn violin, I wanted to make sure I didn't have a teacher who would look down on me or roll her eyes at my efforts. Instead I found one who was so supportive, so enthusiastic, and so comfortable with directing the lesson and correcting me without putting me down. I listen to the old masters daily (Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, etc) but I wanted to learn "fiddle" because that is really North America's "soul" music. Caitlin is great because she knows both. She knows how these tunes should be played and is very patient with my impatience to learn everything at once. I would recommend her to anyone." - Tina "I have been studying with Caitlin for over two years and cannot say enough good things about her. She is patient, thorough, does not employ a cookie- cutter method to teaching her varied students. So get in on the ground floor before it's too late! Her studio will fill up pretty quickly!" - Diane "I'm a classically-trained violinist who always wanted to play Irish traditional music, and I found Caitlin through Gabriel Byrne (long story.... Buy me a Jameson first). She is nothing short of brilliant as a musician, teacher and music producer (see "Manhattan Sessions" her excellent collaborative CD). Just as important, she is a truly delightful compatriot in the world of music. No question is too stupid, guilt is not allowed, and good jokes are encouraged. She is an awesome teacher, a wonderful performer, and a super-cool human being." - Miriam "I am a new student of Caitlin's, but after a lifetime as a student to the Ph.D. level, and teacher/professor myself, I quickly realized how gifted she is. She has the perfect balance of expertise, enthusiasm, generosity, and patience that is so very uncommon." - Arthur "I've been a student of Caitlin's for Irish fiddle, for about a year or so. Starting as an adult beginner, I can heartily recommend her patient and insightful approach, sensitivity to students' interests, and positive and engaging lessons." - Nick "I have been a student of Caitlin for the past 2 years. She is a great teacher-she is an expert fiddler and her knowledge base is expansive. She is patient and carefully explains about technique, and my fiddling has greatly improved from having worked with her. Oh, and she is nice and has a great sense of humor!" - Charlotte A bit about me: Hailing from a family of bush pilots in Fairbanks, Alaska, Caitlin Warbelow is a fiddler/violinist currently residing in Brooklyn. Currently, Caitlin is the violinist/fiddler for Riverdance's new production, "Heartbeat of Home", as well as a substitute violinist for Sting's new musical on Broadway, "The Last Ship". She has toured and performed with Cherish the Ladies, Mick Moloney and the Green Fields of America, The Brock McGuire Band, Michael Londra and Celtic Fire, The Mickey Finns, and The Prodigals, among many others. Known as something of a musical chameleon, Caitlin performs, records, and teaches extensively in NYC and around the country in a variety of genres including Irish traditional and rock, country and bluegrass, Texas swing and contest fiddling, and on occasion returns to her roots as a classical violinist. Caitlin holds honors from the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts, the National Suzuki Conference, the New England Fiddle Championship, and the Fleadh Cheoil (All-Ireland Competition). Her 2012 CD "Manhattan Island Sessions" was nominated for an Independent Music Award. Caitlin is on the faculty at Manhattan's Irish Arts Center and is an artistic coordinator at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival and the Far North Fiddle Festival. Caitlin received a masters degree in Urban Planning from Columbia University and double bachelors degrees from Boston University in Violin Performance and Anthropology.
