About
(Pelham Manor, NY based - Zoom & FaceTime available).
Hi! I am an internationally acclaimed and active conductor, organist, pianist, composer and educator who teaches privately in addition to my concertizing. My studio is in Washington Heights (Upper Manhattan New York City) close to subways lines and West Side Highway.
I have many years experience working with children of all ages. I encourage parents to attend the lessons as a productive tool to help your child in the learning process. I also have extensive experience working with children/adults with ADD/AHDD, Aspergers/ autism with wonderful results.
I was a Professor of Piano Keyboard Skills, Theory and Ear Training at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music for many years. I have coached with many singers both in Opera and Musical Theatre. I also taught Music History at Barnard College. I believe in a very friendly and supportive learning environment. You will find many recordings of my playing on Youtube. I have a large grand piano in sunny quiet teaching studio in Washington Heights. I have experience teaching students at every level from beginner to professionals from all over the world - Europe, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, etc. I believe in addition to the musical basics, it is important to develop the skills of sight reading and improvisation as a way to grow as an artist at any level. I look forward to working with you.

I searched far and wide for a great professional piano teacher and found it in Justin. I had played when I was a kid and wanted to have a hobby that I can enjoy as well as learn from. Justin listened to what I wanted out of my experience (e.g., enjoyable yet challenging) and has tailored my lessons and checks in regularly to make sure he is doing all he can to make the experience even better. He is very knowledgeable about music in general not just piano, so I am not only learning the keys and technical skills, but also about the composer, music history, and culture. He has a kind and patient way to get me through the hard parts but challenges me to do better than what I expected of myself. I look forward to going to my lessons every week--it feels like a musical escape. Also, he is one of very few teachers in Manhattan who has a grand piano to teach on-- it's a treat to play on it. Highly recommended for all types of piano students!

Justin is not only patient with his students, he is adamant about incremental progress. Any issues you have with your piano technique (or in my case, sight-reading), he has a lot of experience helping students who went through similar situations. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or even a professional, you will really benefit from his instruction.

I'm very fortunate to have Justin as my teacher. Justin does a great job of making sure I understand 'why' different aspects are important so I never feel tempted to try to take any shortcuts. Justin is also an experienced voice and musictheory teacher, and I personally really enjoy that I can use him as a resource to improve in those areas as well

Justin was Great. I really enjoyed the lesson. Also very complementary even though it’s been awhile for me. He told m he could tell I had experience and past vocal training. Was a Confidence booster!
