Sokol did return to fix the work. The issues addressed in my initial post have been corrected.
I want to start by saying that Sokol was very pleasant to deal with and was punctual. He arrived when he said he would, both for the estimate and to complete the work. Unfortunately, however, I was very disappointed with the quality of the finished job, and I believe the photos speak for themselves.
I hired Sokol to paint two walls that I could not safely reach because they were above/along a staircase, as well as the ceiling of the room. I had already painted nearly everything else myself, including an accent wall. One of the main reasons I chose to hire a professional painter—aside from accessibility—was because I wanted clean, crisp transitions between the accent wall and the newly painted areas. Sokol assured me that I would be impressed with his work.
Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication, and Sokol initially painted over the accent wall that I had already completed. This required me to repaint it and cost me approximately $40 in additional Sherwin-Williams paint.
There was also a small area high on one wall that needed to be spackled, sanded, and painted. Sokol told me he could complete the repair, dry it with a heat gun, and proceed with painting. As the photos show, I was extremely dissatisfied with the finished repair. It was not smooth or properly blended into the surrounding wall.
The painting itself was also not what I expected from a professional painter. There are visible brush marks, areas that do not appear to have been properly rolled out, uneven transitions, and paint bleeding onto adjacent walls rather than the crisp lines I specifically requested. There is also debris visibly painted into portions of the ceiling, and paint was left on some of my trim and woodwork.
Ultimately, the finished product was comparable to—or in some areas below—the quality of work I could have completed myself. The primary reason I hired a professional was to handle areas I could not safely access and to achieve a more polished finish than I could reasonably accomplish on my own.
This was my first experience hiring a professional painter, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing one. I had read so many positive reviews about Sokol and was genuinely looking forward to working with him, which made the outcome even more surprising.
While I appreciated his pleasant demeanor, responsiveness, and punctuality, I cannot recommend the quality of the painting and repair work I received. I encourage anyone considering hiring him to look closely at the attached photos and make their own assessment of the workmanship.
