When it comes to making tax season pain free Michael Schonig delivers. Been with him for three tax seasons so far and definitely utilizing him next year. Keeps records well, checks against past returns in case we forget something, and works with our crazy schedule. Of the two certainties in life, death and taxes he will take care of the later.

Mike is super smart, competent and patiently helpful. I know little about taxes and Mike was always willing and able to explain all of my options so i could make the best choice for myself.

Michael Schonig came highly recommended by a colleague of mine when I ran into a mix up with a prior years tax return. Not only did he know exactly the right steps to take to help fix the problem, he answered every question I had quickly and took extra steps to safeguard my situation. He has been my family’s accountant ever since and I have also recommended his services both personally and professionally. He is the only person I will trust with my personal and business finances.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Many tax professionals charge clients on an hourly rate. This often results in surprise bills and fees which are unknown until the work is completed. On most projects, I arrange a set fee with clients beforehand, which avoids surprises and is enumerated in an engagement letter describing the scope of work and fees for both parties to sign. Sometimes work is completed using an hourly rate and in these instances, frequent communication on expected fees and status occur to keep all parties informed to the project's status and cost.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We will have an initial consultation to discuss your needs and expectations. Usually, I am provided with a set of your previous records or filings and will return to you a fee quote, or for more in-depth engagements, a written proposal. If you agree with the proposal, we will memorialize our understanding in an engagement letter, and you will be set-up in my software systems to securely transfer information. Through-out the process of us working together, to the extent available, I will propose planning ideas that can be implemented, or items to consider for the future.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a licensed CPA, with over a decade of experience assisting businesses and their owners in U.S. based tax issued, and I possess degrees in (BBA) Accounting and (MS) Taxation. I have been published in regional (Tax Stringer) and national tax publications (Tax Advisor).
