Introduction: My service stands out because I have successfully taught people who previously failed with other teachers. For example, my plumber came to fix a leak while I was finishing up a lesson. I asked him if he ever thought of playing guitar. He said he actually took lessons from two guitar teachers but he failed. He quit and decided guitar wasn't a thing he could do. So i said take some lessons with me. I'll give you a free lesson right now. He took the lesson and came back for many more and he got really good. He could play many complicated songs and solos too. So the teacher does make a big difference. The reason I love to teach guitar is that I get to do 2 of my favorite things all day: play guitar and teach. I have always loved teaching. I used to teach math, insurance and finance in company training programs when I did white collar work. I taught many people how to swim. I taught my brother how to play guitar when I was 16 and he was 13. I taught my daughter how to read and write and add and subtract when she was 4. And I taught her the 12 x12 times table when she was 5, before she entered kindergarten. So I always loved to teach, and what could be more fun than teaching guitar?

Very experienced guitar player. He knows how to teach and got me playing a couple of songs the first lesson. He is familiar with many different genres of music and fits with what I like to be playing.

I met Howie just about a year ago as 48 year old who never played guitar before but was always curious. We talked on the phone about his free lesson and when I said I only need 10-15 minutes to see if im comfortable with him, he quickly disagreed stating I need the whole hour to evaluate.Well, I left his house after not an hour but an hour and a half already learning some chords and feeling anxious to learn more. Howie has a great way about him in teaching, calmly pushing you at your pace to get better.Yes, he clearly is an excellent guitar player but not all great musicians can be great teachers.Howie has that quality. After a years time I enjoy coming each week for my lesson to learn and play more.I now can see the method in him teaching certain songs as each selection broadens the players ability. I would recommend Howie to any beginner, novice or even an experienced player as he has the ability to adjust to all levels.I just wish I met him a lot earlier....

Howie is an excellent guitar teacher. He teaches me new things and then will practice together with me for a great while. He will also teach me songs that I am interested in learning. A great mix of new technique and learning songs.

I've been a guitar student of Howie's for the past two years. I have learned so much. Howie is an excellent teacher. He has you playing cool songs from the first or second lesson. Howie is a great guitarist, himself, and is able to demonstrate superb guitar-playing. He is also able to explain music theory in a way that is easy to understand. I would highly recommend Howie as a guitar instructor.

I decided to resume learning to play the acoustic guitar, an endeavor I began as a teenager. My daughters bought me a lesson from Howie as a Mother's Day gift. It was such a wonderful experience that I have continued to take lessons from him for several years now! He is patient, talented and skilled and has an excellent technique for imparting these abilities to his students. Howie is a great teacher and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone of any age. You will not be disappointed!

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

When I have a new student who is a beginner, I give the beginner lesson. I teach them how to form a few chords and then teach them a song using those chords. If they have played before, I quickly figure out the level they are at and use their prior experience as a starting point on which to build upon and expand. For example. if they already know chords and rhythyms and songs, I would teach them scales and improvising and then solos.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I studied classical piano at ages 7 to 8. I played Trombone in the school orchestra and marching band from 9 - 12. I have been playing guitar since I was 12 and played in rock bands from 12 1/2 to the present. Regarding education, I have an M.B.A. in finance from Fordham University.
