About
Hi! I'm Ms. Jenna, a certified elementary school literacy specialist and former first grade teacher located in New York. I am excited by every opportunity to help a child become an independent and life-long learner! I have created all of my reading and writing resources to be accessible virtually and can meet with your child wherever you are, providing consistency and reliability. I specialize in teaching children how to become confident readers, writers, spellers, and thinkers. Starting from as young as 4 years old, I can help your child develop the foundation they need to become a skilled reader. My approach is grounded in research-based methods that are explicit and systematic in order to help improve your child’s decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension skills. Contact me to book a no obligation reading screener and consultation to get a better idea of what your child’s reading level is and how I can best support them! About Ms. Jenna I was a first grade teacher in a New York City public school in Chelsea for six years before becoming a reading specialist (grades K-4) in a top rated school district in Westchester, NY. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Childhood and Special Education (grades 1-6) from SUNY Geneseo and a Master’s degree in Literacy (birth-6th grade) from Teachers College at Columbia University. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham, which is a specialized, explicit and multisensory approach to teaching reading through phonics based instruction, and have completed a two year certification program to become a CALT (a certified academic language therapist who specializes in providing dyslexia therapy). Throughout my career, I have had experience teaching children of varying abilities across all elementary grade levels. Private Tutoring Services I specialize in teaching reading, writing, and phonics to children, pre-kindergarten to 6th grade, using explicit and research-based approaches. I tailor my instruction to meet each individual child’s needs, but most importantly, I strive to make learning fun and engaging for young children! I provide all of my clients with a free 30-minute initial consultation to discuss your child’s current levels, learning needs, and learning style in order to ensure I am a good fit for your family. We will work together to establish goals and develop a personalized and targeted plan to strengthen your child’s literacy skills.

We’ve had an incredible experience working with Jenna. She is exceptionally patient and thoughtful, and she continually adapts her approach based on what my son needs in the moment. She has a real gift for finding ways to keep him motivated, focused, and engaged, even when learning feels challenging. The progress he has made with Jenna has been significant. When they began working together, he was behind in literacy, and he is now on track for his grade level and has gained so much confidence. Jenna has also gone above and beyond the tutoring itself. She has helped us better understand where he needs support and has been an invaluable partner in thinking through what we can do both at home and at school to help him continue to grow. We’re incredibly grateful for the impact Jenna has had on our son. I would highly recommend her to any family looking for a patient, skilled, and truly dedicated literacy teacher.

Jenna has been working with my son for over a year. Her ability to keep him engaged and focused is exceptional and her methods have been very successful in helping him bridge the gap. Thanks to her knowledge and tailored techniques, Dylan is able to continuously apply what he has learned with her into the classroom. He has regained his confidence and love of learning!

There are no words to express the value and impact Jenna has had on my daughter. When we realized our daughter was struggling with aspects of her reading and no one would say the word "dyslexia," Jenna was our North Star. Not only an incredible teacher, she's a fantastic resource for parents looking to do the best thing for their child when the options can be overwhelming. Now heading into middle school, my daughter has confidence with the techniques she's learned to work her way through reading materials like she never could before. We are forever grateful for Jenna!

Ms. Jenna was a great asset for my granddaughter, Annabelle. She struggled in the beginning, but to see where she has grown and learned so much more in 4 years, its remarkable. She had so much trouble reading and Ms. Jenna has helped her tremendously. I would recommend Ms. Jenna and this program for any child struggling in school with reading.

I’m so glad we signed up for reading tutoring with Jenna. My six year old son learned so much in such a short amount of time and gained a ton of confidence in reading and writing. Jenna provides amazing tools for students as well as for parents to be able to support their child’s reading. Jenna is a literacy specialist, not just a tutor, and it shows! She took a very thoughtful and tailored approach in teaching my son and he was reading within a few short months. Couldn’t recommend her more!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Prices range from $80-$175/session depending on frequency, duration, and the time of day. Contact me for pricing - I provide discounts on my hourly rate when you book three or more sessions per week and if you book during school day hours. I also provide a lower hourly rate per child for group sessions.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I first like to set up a free initial consultation meeting with the family to discuss goals together and ensure that I'd be a good match for the child and family. Then I start with some initial assessments in order to plan next steps towards growth and success.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor's degree in Childhood and Special Education (grades 1-6) from SUNY Geneseo and a Master’s degree in Literacy (birth-6th grade) from Teachers College at Columbia. I am also trained in Orton-Gillingham. I have 9 years of experience teaching in public schools.
