It was a pleasure dealing with this company! We are very satisfied with the job done . We would definitely use Cook Contracting again and would recommend them to family and friends!Aug 9, 2017VerifiedCook Contracting & Remodel's reply
Thank you very much, pleasure working for you.
My fiancé and I hired Cook Contracting and Remodel to complete a project that was very important to us, the complete renovation of our spare bathroom and Den. This project was very important for us for 2 reasons: 1) This is our main entertaining space for company. As you can see from some of the before / after splits, this entire area was embarrassing to host our family and friends because it looked like Big Bird threw up all over the walls. Don’t even get us started on that disgusting carpet. 2) Before we discovered Thumbtack, we were actually ripped off by another “contractor” we found on Facebook for the same job. To be fair, he had reviews and seemed legitimate enough but we soon discovered he was a fraud, pressed charges, and thankfully recovered most of the money he stole from us. Anyway, because of this fact, we were completely scarred from having someone literally come into our home and steal from us, making it understandably hard for us to trust anyone again. Then we downloaded Thumbtack and met Teddy Cook. From the onset, it was very clear that Teddy was not only incredibly knowledgable about all aspects of construction, but also enthusiastic about the prospect of working for us. He told us on more than one occasion in the estimate process that he really wanted to do this project for us, which was refreshing because a lot of other contractors we looked at on Thumbtack couldn’t even be bothered to produce a quote after coming over for an estimate. Teddy’s passion got him the job, and we are in complete and total love with the results! It is worth mentioning that everything Teddy worked on for us was custom work. There was really nothing standard or cookie cutter about what we asked for; we are both very creative people and had a very specific vision for what we wanted the space to look like and Teddy’s creativity and skill was able to bring our vision to life! The work he completed for us as a part of this project included but was not limited to: - New Tile Floors Throughout (included leveling of all floors, as our our slab the old tile / carpet was on was COMPLETELY uneven) - Full Bathroom Gut - Brick Wall in Bathroom - Curb Shower with Rain Head, Niche, + Bench - All Tile Work - Heated Floors in Bathroom - Sliding Barn Door - 3 New Additional Interior Doors - New Exterior Door + Storm Door - Rehabilitation of Existing Den Walls (in VERY rough shape from previous homeowner garage conversion) - New Paint Throughout - Brick Wall in Den - Custom Bar Built from Scratch - Custom Header Beam - Rehabilitation of Existing Staircase - New Base, Crown, + Door / Window Moulding - Upgrade of Electric Service to 150 Amps Teddy performed all of this work either himself or with various assistants. None of this work got subbed out to any other companies which speaks to what a professional Teddy is. We were amazed at not only his ability to do so many different elements of construction work (plumbing, electrical, tile, sheetrock, carpentry, millwork, painting, masonry, etc.) but to literally be an expert in each and every area. This was such a nice departure from going the General Contractor route and having a parade of different trades tear the house apart for weeks on end, blaming the people who came yesterday for today’s problems. Besides his level of expert craftsmanship, one of the traits we liked most about Teddy was how great of a communicator he was. He was constantly in contact with us throughout the entire project and kept us in the loop every step of the way. Communication is a two-way street and we made a point to meet with him every morning to see what the day would bring. If we couldn’t be there to greet him first thing because of other obligations, he would always call or text us. But above all else, what we most appreciated about Teddy was how trustworthy he was. It isn’t easy hiring a contractor who will spend time in your home when you are not there (and remember the horror story we told earlier regarding the bogus contractor we first hired), but Teddy earned our trust by being polite, respectful, reliable, and a good communicator. We cannot possibly sing Teddy's praises loud enough or recommend him more highly, and hope the pictures of the work he completed for us says more than words ever could. Teddy, thank you!Jun 22, 2018VerifiedCook Contracting & Remodel's reply
It was all my pleasure working for you folks. Thanks so much for all your patience in the process.
He ripped us off and we made the decision to stop the job as a result. We originally were going to have the kitchen redone as well as pantry, doorway to another room, and floor leveled in kitchen area from basement. Life happened and we chose to hold off on the kitchen but get everything else done (less than half the job). The price adjustment was NOT commensurate with what we were not doing-but we figured we were going to have him do the kitchen eventually and had the quotes in writing. Mistake #1. The floor that he raised is still not level. The pantry is not complete. A light is hanging, and additional lights were not installed that were supposed to be. Room incomplete. He removed a built in bar and was supposed to make it a wall for us to put our TV on. Wall was left half a$$ spackled and my husband had to complete sparkle/sand/prime/paint. Room incomplete. The door he moved/replaced. When I asked him if he was going to show me doors he told me he already had one. He picked a door without ever consulting with us or discussing options. We have to pay a contractor to replace. Additionally, when moving the light switches he put them on the wrong side of the door. Have to pay an electrician to fix this error as well. (He put it the switch on the closed side of the sliding door). We are now without a step into the next room, have additional holes in wall AND ceiling that my husband had just painted. Job incomplete. In the basement he emptied a closet without my knowledge and cut holes in the ceiling for access. Holes were left open and a mess left in two rooms. A pile of bricks and broken cement were left in our yard. Additionally, he asked for more money before the job was complete. He said the job took longer than expected. I documented his hours and for the first two weeks (we were told job would take 6 weeks) he was by himself and would leave DAILY between 2-2:30pm (nice day, huh?). The INCOMPLETE job cost us $20,000. He would explain what he was going to work on the following week so I would make adjustments (laundry, etc), and then change his plan without letting me know. All around, I can not recommend this company. We were burned. I’m upset I trusted him so much. Photos are of the job incomplete.May 4, 2018VerifiedCook Contracting & Remodel's reply
It is very unfortunate when a partnership does not work out and both parties are left unsatisfied. However in this case, I tried to make my customer happy but THERE WAS ZERO COMMUNICATION with MaryAnn. This job in particular was very difficult due to the house being very old and things that were done previously, were done incorrectly by the homeowner and not a contractor. Therefore, it took extra time for demo and repairs. The house was completely cluttered which hindered my progress. Most of the time I needed to wait for direction or a question to be answered. At some points there were 7 dogs and 3 cats that I was trying to maneuver around. Not to mention, concerned about them getting hurt. In regards to the work that was done, I completed what I could with the money that I was given up to that point. I constantly had to track down the next payment due so I could continue work. We had a payment schedule, signed by both parties and unfortunately they did not adhere to this. I even changed the schedule to give them more time to come up with a payment for convenience. Not to mention their first checked bounced and I had to wait 2 days for another one. In regards to the door, we did discuss what she wanted and she made it clear to just get white. I replaced the sliding glass door with a new one that was white. As far as the basement closet, I had to gain access in the ceiling and both owners were previously told this, which they were fine with. I did have to remove clutter from the closet, as there was no one home to do it. In the upstairs closet as well. I didn't mind doing this, but had to choice, so I could gain access. The pile of bricks and cement were going to be taken away upon completion of job, which never happened. In regards to the work hours, I normally start my jobs 7:00 am sharp. I was not allowed to start until 8:30. This in of itself caused the job to take longer. As far as leaving time, I left when the task for the day was completed. In light of everything that happened, I was more than willing to complete the job and make sure they were satisfied. Unfortunately, they wanted to hire someone else to finish. I think my work speaks for itself and more importantly my reviews. This is the only negative review I have ever received. My customers hire me based on my reviews and I do everything I can to make my customers happy. In the end I am very sorry we could not communicate better and resolve this with a finished job.
Teddi was excellent in every way. He communicated well, showed up on time, worked hard and was very conscientious and diligent. Very pleasant and easy to work with.Dec 2, 2019VerifiedCook Contracting & Remodel's reply

Ted just completed several projects for me. For each he had excellent suggestions and work-arounds, and he was knowledgeable and experienced. It was a pleasure working with him.Apr 20, 2019VerifiedCook Contracting & Remodel's reply
