Introduction: After 25 years as an electrical engineer, I have chosen to change careers to teaching mathematics and technology to middle and high school students. I spent many years mentoring electricians through apprenticeship programs and noticed that I spent much of my time teaching them mathematics. I also loved working with students in middle school career classes where I could show them why learning mathematics was a necessary life skill. Currently, I am attending SUNY Brockport to earn my masters degree in inclusive secondary mathematics education and completed my student teaching in May. I have taught and privately tutored students from fifth through twelfth grade in middle school math, Common Core algebra, geometry, Algebra 2/trigonometry, pre-calculus and statistics. I really enjoy working one-on-one and in small group settings with students who are either struggling or need extra challenges. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My standard price for tutoring is $25/hr when we are working with problems that the student provides. If I need to provide a text, students may pay extra for that.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I offer a free 30 minute consultation to help the student determine if I am the right tutor for your needs. I do a short assessment to see what mathematical concepts a student is missing before we work on their problems so I know how to help them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Education for Inclusive Secondary Mathematics. I have also trained in calculating & presenting statistics in an industrial setting which has transferred well into teaching students the proper use of statistics.
