My piano sounds and feels like new (it's 50 years old). He not only tuned it ($195) perfectly he adjusted all of the capstans ($65) which made the action much lighter and more responsive. No other piano tuner identified this issue. He spent 2 1/2 hours making it perfect. I definitely would reco him

This was the first piano tuning I’ve had in over a decade. I had no other frame of reference, however Mr. Calvin was thorough. He explained the present condition of my piano, and discussed what to expect, which included the cost for service. Upon completion he disclosed it was close to optimal, however because of the time lapse between tunings, it was not at 100%. He did advise regular maintenance every 4-6 months. The feedback I would offer is to disclose acceptable payment methods prior to arrival, this will allow the customer to be better prepared.

Calvin brought our baby grand back from the dead. It hadn’t been tuned in years and was clearly showing it: a sticking key, aging parts, and felt swelling from temperature changes. Most people would’ve done the bare minimum and called it “good enough.” Calvin didn’t. He went above and beyond, staying on the job until the piano was fully revived. He took it apart piece by piece to clean and restore what needed attention, then got it back in tune and playing beautifully. It honestly feels like it could hold its own in Carnegie Hall (yes, I’m exaggerating, but only a little). On top of the craftsmanship, he was on time, professional, and walked us through a few simple tips to keep the piano in great shape going forward. If you want someone who actually cares about doing the job right, hire Calvin.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The fee for fine tuning is $175. The fee for pitch raise is $150. The fee for regulation is $950. The fee for voicing is $65. The fee for cleaning the interior of a Grand Piano is $165. to $220.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When I come to a new customers piano, l will have on a mask, and I will let you know what need to be fixed; and what the cost would be; you can decide weather to complete the job. Sometimes a payment plan could be arranged.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In 1966 l was sent from the Jamaica Scsool of Music on a Scholarship Award to London, and would return in 1968 to work there for three years. At the end of the program I Graduated from The Institute of Musical Instrument Technology (G.M.I.M.I.T Lon.); and also won the the Evelyn Broadwood Scholarship award for 1968. It is the highest award for outstanding research on the proper sequence to Regulate the Grand piano Action. In 1978. l passed the Piano Technicians Guild Examination to become a member. (PTG).
