Introduction
I have been providing private and group Pilates and functional movement / personal training sessions in NYC for the last ten years. I love sharing the gift of mindful movement and witnessing the beautiful change that happens in our bodies with this work. As a Kane School trained Pilates teacher and personal trainer, I have "x-ray vision," and a highly detailed, advanced understanding of the body. I have a gentle yet firm approach which helps clients' access their best effort while also meeting them where they are that day. I love both offering detailed, corrective and alignment-focused sessions, as well as helping you access a robust and challenging movement experience. My sensitivity and attention to detail are especially appreciated by clients working with injuries and special conditions like scoliosis. I also have experience working with prenatal and postpartum clients as well as programming for osteoporosis, severe hip arthritis and mobility issues, ankylosing spondylitis, bursitis and frozen shoulder, prehab for surgery and post-rehab from knee replacement, ankle injuries, and more. I am also a yoga and suspension training (TRX) teacher, as well as a Reiki practitioner. All of these modalities can be incorporated into sessions. Movement is healing and life-giving, and I find intentional movement with a connection between mind/body to be THE MOST FUN! This is the kind of exercise that can bring joy and health for a lifetime. As a former professional dancer for many years, I understand the downside of “beating up” one’s body, and I’m passionate about the power of connecting to and caring for oneself through deep breathing and sustainable, conscious exercise. Halley comes to our home, and trains my wife and I for an our. Neither of us is in great shape. We do stretching, Pilates and other yoga like exercises. Halley adjusts to our needs, and is an outstanding instructor. She is gentle, cheerful, and kind!

Halley's been my Pilates trainer for most of the last 6 years. I worked with other trainers for 5 years before Halley, after a neck problem (souvenir from football long ago) that required a change of exercise routine. Halley's easy to get along with, very knowledgeable, and pays close attention in order to help you get the most out of a session and continue to improve. We've done remote sessions weekly over the past year that have been very close to studio level. Many of the trainers I've worked with in NYC have been excellent. Halley's the best.

I absolutely love my sessions with Halley! She helped me work through some old dance injuries, and make some day to day changes in the way I carry my body and I feel so much better. She focuses a lot on form and technique, and takes the time to dispel confusion and really make sure you're learning to do things right. She was on time, and flexible about my hectic schedule. I would definitely recommend her to all!

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

    At the Kane School of Core Integration, my training emphasized corrective Pilates as applied to various populations. I was hired at Kinected Center, the home of the Kane School, immediately upon completing my certification. I have continued my training with workshops in Biomechanics, Hypermobility and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and Postpartum Pilates at Elevate Cooperative. Other workshops include: The Functional Anatomy for Movement and Injuries (FAMI) Workshop at Mt. Sinai Gross Anatomy Lab, FAMI 2: The Shoulder, Healthy Neck mechanics with Kelly Kane, Balanced Body's Bodhi ropes suspension system training, and a seminar on Yoga for Scoliosis with Yoga Union founder Allison West. I have also studied with renowned Juilliard anatomist Irene Dowd, and Rebekah Rotstein.   • What types of customers have you worked with?

    I visit you in your home or office, or virtually for personal mat Pilates sessions, or we meet in a studio space if you prefer work on the equipment. We consult so I can understand your past injuries or conditions, as well as your goals. I then design a workout specifically for you, to achieve your workout goals as well as help rehabilitate injuries and repattern your movement. I modify the workout as needed according to the needs of that particular day. Over time, we work to achieve optimal movement patterns, and progressively increase the challenge of the workout to make your body ever smarter and stronger.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

    I'm always thrilled when I can help my clients who are experiencing back pain or pain from disc herniations. Many times, with a few simple Pilates exercises, the pain is quickly reduced or eliminated, and I can give my clients tools to manage their pain independently between sessions.
