FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The pricing for voice and piano lessons is complicated by the lesson length you may wish. You may choose a half hour, 45-minutes, or an hour. I generally recommend a half hour for children under 12 in voice lessons; and in piano the half hour lesson is enough for most beginning piano students. If you wish to learn at a faster pace, try 45 minutes. You may always change the length of your lesson, however sometimes a time change may be needed. One more expense is a book to aid the study of piano or voice. These books are not needed for the first lesson. Recommendations will be made by the instructor. If you own books for piano or voice, bring them to your first lesson.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Parents often contact me with questions about their child starting piano or voice lessons. Here' s what I recommend: Every young child needs exposure to music. I recommend Kindermusik or Musikgarten classes for pre-school children. Some teachers start children in private lessons at age 3 & up. I prefer the student of voice and piano to be at least 7 years.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I trained by studying the major of voice performance in all three degrees: Bachelor of Music from Nyack University; Masters of Music from Manhattan School of Music; and Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Oklahoma. I have taught voice for over 40 years, mostly in a university setting. I enjoy teaching both children and adults. I have experience as a pianist (my minor in all degrees was piano). I play for church and soloists.
