Introduction: Music Entertainment: PLEASE READ- My minimum pricing for performance events is $250. Even if your event is 1 hour or less, the pricing will start at $250. This accounts for travel to and from the event, setting up sound equipment and other costs associated with this line of work. For more information on pricing, please read my pricing FAQ at the bottom. I have been performing music professionally for many years now. I am a multi-instrumentalist and singer and my goal is to be as versatile as possible to fit whatever needs you may have. Typically I perform on acoustic guitar or piano and sing, but I can also perform instrumentally for cocktail hour, wedding ceremonies, or similar events. The range of music I play varies from current top 40 hits, to classic rock, jazz, oldies, classical and many more. I also take requests for any events I am hired for. Feel free to check out my youtube channel to preview my live performances. I am available as: A soloist: Instrumental piano, piano and vocals, guitar and vocals Duo: Guitar/piano/vocals; Guitar or piano/drums/vocals; Guitar or piano/Bass/Vocals Trio: Guitar/Piano/ Drums/Vocals, Guitar/Bass/Drums/Vocals Full band: Guitar, Piano, Drums, Bass, Vocals. Optional add-ons include multiple singers, horns, percussion players, etc. If you are planning on hiring more than one musician for your event, this will need to be included into your budget. A one hour event for a soloist may start at $250, but a full band will certainly be priced higher for the same amount of time. TEACHING: I can only provide VIRTUAL LESSONS. Please consider this. I have a deep passion for music and have been performing and teaching for over ten years now. Teaching beginners brings as much joy as working with advanced players. My goal is to spread the joy of music. Lessons are always shaped to the individual student's interests. LOCATION Lessons take place virtually over Skype, FaceTime or Zoom. Parents are always welcome to sit in on the lesson.

Piano Lessons

Rob is talented, creative and reliable. He is an excellent piano instructor because he teaches technique while encouraging personal creativity. He takes time to understand your goals and uses each session to make you a stronger composer. As a talented artist, Rob helps you understand the composition of the music while introducing unique cords to successfully build on a song. He is more than just a piano teacher, he is a musician with a great ear as well as an educator who can help you write your own music, mix instrumentals and integrate the piano into music production. Rob is amazing!

Music Entertainment

Rob played at the reception for my grandparent's funeral. He arrived at the restaurant early to set up and was in place & ready when the guests began arriving. He played just the right music for the event and we were impressed with his voice & skills. Most importantly he was receptive to the needs & requests of the guests. I would definitely reach out to Rob in the future for all of our entertaining needs.

Music Entertainment

Rob Carroll is a consummate professional. This was my first time using Thumbtack and Rob talked me through the steps needed to hire him. He did a Catholic graveside service for me and I was totally impressed with his helpfulness, consciousness, musical skill and willingness to go above and beyond my expectations. He even played and sung graveside in the misty rain so the memorial service could go on as planned. He is a caring individual who you can trust to do the right thing. He’s worth every dollar plus. I am not related nor did I know him before I hired him. Have faith, you won’t be disappointed.

Piano Lessons

Rob is a wonderful instructor. He is patient, kind, and offers a lot of support and strategies to help fully understand how to play. Learning how to play as an adult can be difficult but Rob is really encouraging and knowledgable which helps so much. Look no further for an awesome keyboard instructor!

Guitar Lessons

Let me start by saying I have / had 0 experience playing guitar and I’ve always wanted to learn. Over the years I’ve acquired guitars as gifts or whatnot and I really wanted to learn how to play. My fiancé bought me lessons through Rob for Christmas and it’s been an absolutely incredible experience. Rob knew that I had 0 experience and knew absolutely nothing about playing. He’s explained the anatomy of the guitar, taught me how to hold it, how to read music, etc etc. I’m still far from a pro but I’ve learned so much over the past 2 1/2 months and I can even play some cool riffs. Rob is extremely talented and so incredibly patient. He teaches you at the pace at which you want to learn. He doesn’t judge you for sucking (I judge myself) and he’s very friendly. I highly recommend Rob if you’re interested in starting lessons.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Music Entertainment Pricing: My rate starts at $100/hour per performer. Additionally, the minimum pricing for a soloist gig is $250. This does not mean that the event will be $250 per hour. Although a 1 hour event will start at $250, a two hour event might be the same price. My hourly rate is an estimation of the cost of services. Each event is different and it is impossible for me to have a flat rate based on the different requirements of each job. Factors to be taken into consideration are: distance of event, amount of music being played, amount of requests, amount and type of sound equipment necessary for the event, time of day, time of year, etc. All performance events will have a minimum base of $250 regardless of any of these factors. Pricing for duo events begins at $500. Trio Events: $700 Band Events: $800 This is a rough approximation, as each event will be different. There is some flexibility in price depending on location, amount of time, and material required. I need to make sure that musicians I hire are compensated fairly, so you can expect these price ranges depending on the configuration you are looking for. If you are looking for quality music for your event, you can expect the price to differ greatly from that of a soloist. Teaching: My rates for teaching are $35/half hour and $70 per hour. When a student first starts lessons, we tend to go week by week. I like to make sure that we are a good fit, and that the student feels no pressure to continue lessons. After the first month, I require students to pay for the month of lessons in advance. There is no set monthly price. The price per month is wholly dependent on the amount of lessons that occur within the month. If, for example, a student takes 1 hour lessons on Mondays and there are four Mondays that month, the student will pay $280 before the first lesson of the month. If there are 5 Mondays that month, the student will pay $350. The same is expected for lessons of 30 and 45 minute durations.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Teaching: I usually spend the first lesson discussing a new student's musical goals, desires and influences. Ideally, I would like to see them perform some piece of music for me so I can get an idea of what their current capabilities are. Depending on the instrument, I also like to see how their sight reading is.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a bachelor's degree from Adelphi University in music performance and composition. I have also been teaching and performing music for a living over the last 10 years. I started playing music over 20 years ago in my childhood. All of the musicians I hire have graduated from a wide range of schools with degrees in either music performance, or composition.
