FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attend Groom Expo in Hershey, PA almost every year where they have experts give seminars about everything possible related to grooming. I see new products that make grooming easier on the pet and the groomer and am able to purchase them there. I also receive Groomer to Groomer magazing which keeps groomers updated in the latest news in grooming. I also subscribe to 3 newsletters produced by leading veternarian universities to keep up with health issues and dietary issues concerning dogs and cats.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have a passion for animals, but am a little wimpy. As a child I always wanted to be a vet but found out I am too sensitive to be able to give shots or do other necessary procedures that are needed to keep pets alive and healthy. Thank god there are those wonderful, strong people who became vets. I found that grooming is a better fit for me and enjoy making the pets look nice and feel better.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I groom more golden retievers than any other one type of dog. I do a lot of the newer mixed breeds (shih-poos, golden-doodles). Most are full grooms: bath, dry, brush out, clip or trim coats, nail trim and ear cleaning). Some come in for just nail trimming or just a bath and blow dry.
