Both soothing and energizing, her sessions incorporate a variety of techniques to get a full experience. Shirley is also particularly good at providing adaptations and explaining why and how a movement works.Apr 26, 2016
Shirley's yoga practice is life-changing. She is my favorite yoga & yoga nidra instructor and I'd recommend her to anyone looking to practice yoga. She incorporates different techniques & themes that really make the classes stand out and are great for any level yogi.Apr 19, 2016
She teaches yoga carefully and specifically to each person's ability. She asks before class if anybody hurts anywhere. She gives you an adaptation if you can't do the pose. She can have a person do chair yoga along with the class. She checks our pose and corrects us gently. Her class is gentle, easy and slow paced. She includes spiritual(not religious) education, which I like to learn. I recommend her as a teacher! Betsy , student for several yearsFeb 2, 2015
I take Shirley's weekly class through Shaker Recreation and appreciate how Shirley tailors the poses to each individual in the class. Her approach plus her knowledge of and dedication to the practice has encouraged me to continue taking her class.Feb 1, 2015
I am currently in a weekly yoga class with Shirley at Christ Episcopal Church, Shaker Hts. We work on stretches, strengthening, meditation and relaxation techniques while respecting personal limitations.Jan 31, 2015
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Pricing depends on: 1. If the service is for a private session, small group, or group class. 2. If the service is a presentation. 3. How often the person or group wants to meet.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? For yoga/meditation clients: If a person wants personal movement sessions, I like to meet them in person to see what their goals are, and to see if they've gotten clearance from their doctor. I work with the client to find out what their physical and emotional needs are, and if I am able to provide the level of service the individual requires. If there are extenuating physical and emotional issues I'm not trained to handle, I refer clients to other professionals. For speaking engagements: I meet with the individuals to see what goals they have for their presentation or workshop. I've previously tailored my presentations to suit education, higher education and religious groups. The work I easily applies to any environment or situation.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?M.A., Higher Education Administration: I have mentoring experience in personal and leadership development. Certified and Registered Yoga Teacher with over 1000 teaching hours and almost 300 hours of professional training. Physical therapeutics: I have trained and work with YogaReach, an organization dedicated to working with people who have Parkinson's Disease and other mobility issues. Have studied trauma-sensitive yoga practices. Have studied under Mindful Schools to understand K-12 mindfulness programs.
