FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I give a price quote based on the following factors: 1) Transportation to the venue and overnight accommodations if needed, 2) Specialized garments if requested, 3) drafting & editing the ceremony, 4) research if needed for a particular tradition or aspect to the wedding, 5) rehearsal-if needed, 6) performing the actual ceremony. All factors are negotiable within reason.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I originally got in this line of work to help a friend out. They had an officiant who was supposed to perform their ceremony and in the last month had a serious issue and had to back out. (Sadly that happened to me so I didn't want them to deal with that additional stress.) I had agreed to step in and get my certification in the State of Ohio and I did their ceremony. They have been happily married for 8+ years with two kids now. It was a wonderful experience and I have been performing weddings ever since.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Price should not determine who you go with. Make sure that you are comfortable with your officiant and your officiant is comfortable with you. While the price ministers give you covers his or her costs to get to the venue, acquire the clothing you want them to wear, and the time it took to put together your ceremony. You are going to have that person in your pictures, and in your videos for a long time after, make sure you are happy with your minister.
