FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Almost all of my pricing is done by a flat fee. I have found that clients appreciate when a case is handled by a flat fee agreement, as they know what they will be paying at the outset and will not be worried about how much a case is going to cost or how many hours an attorney will be spending on a case. There are times, however, when a client asked me to perform work on an hourly basis, especially when the amount of work is not considered to take a substantial amount time.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I always make myself accessible to potential clients during the day by telephone, either in my office or on my cell phone. I understand that if a matter is important enough for potential clients to take the time to contact an attorney by telephone, then it is important enough for me to take the time to speak with them on the telephone and and answer any preliminary questions. Second, I make myself available to meet with clients for a brief initial consultation at no cost so that they have the opportunity to meet with me in person. I tell potential clients that hiring an attorney is an important decision and should not be made without at least considering meeting the attorney in person to ask important questions. I always make myself available to meet with clients who are charged with OVI offenses and I will often travel to meet with clients. Many people arrested for OVI offenses are honest, hardworking people who have found themselves in an unfortunate position and have had their driver's license suspended. I want to take the opportunity to meet with these people right away and get them driving as soon as possible so that they don't lose their jobs as a result of the arrest. Lastly, I always send a written engagement letter to potential clients, which spells out the terms of the representation. I have an ethical duty to present a fee agreement to clients and I find that it decreases the need for any unnecessary future fee disputes.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
A large majority of my practice is related to defending people charged with OVI or drunk driving charges. To that end, I have received special training and I am certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the area of standardized field sobriety testing and the detection of OVI offenders.
