Introduction: Martial Arts is much more than what people believe it is today. There are many forms of Martial Arts but few are actually authentic in terms of the teachings, methods and manners in which they are represented. Authentic Martial Arts has nothing to do with the system being taught as much as it does in the quality of the training. Most people today believe that Martial Arts are the people on television that are fighting in cage or in the movies that use and feature skills from the art. Some see it simply as another sport like football, basketball, or baseball.
In reality authentic Martial Arts offers so much more than what those things portray it as...and has little to do with any of them. When a student enters an authentic Martial Arts dojo for the first time they will witness a strong disciplined structure and many students who are there to help and support each other. The smell of sweat may be prevalent in the air which signifies the effort of the entire group who are training there. When you watch the class you will see people from all walks of life involved. Everyone from children as young as 4 to adults in their senior years will be engaged, they will be sweating it out and making noises that may seem strange to the normal person. There will be sense of seriousness in the air but you can find students often smiling during classes at certain times. It may all seem mystical to the ordinary person...but underneath all this is the essence of true Martial Arts.
