FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

My command of the Spanish language, writing skills, and interest in a wide variety of subjects made translation the perfect career path for me to embark on. I started learning Spanish in high school, which set me on a life-long journey of language-learning and travel. I majored in Spanish at a liberal arts college and have recently finished my master's in Spanish Translation. I studied abroad in Argentina for a year and later lived and worked there for about two more. I've also traveled to Costa Rica, Mexico, Uruguay, Chile, and Bolivia.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I will be able to provide you with the best translation for your needs if you can tell me exactly what you need it for and how it will be used. It makes a difference whether or not the material will just be used as an internal reference or for a presentation or publication. The more information you can give your translator, the happier you will be with the end result.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

It takes a lot more that just being bi-lingual to be a translator or interpreter. Translators who have a degree have received two years of feedback on their translations and have had to tackle translating a wide variety of subjects and text types. At Kent State, I also took courses on CAT tools, terminology management, editing, and localization. Translators are professionals who are prepared to use technology to prepare translations accurately and efficiently.
