Introduction: Now booking children's book illustration projects for 2023! I only accept a limited number of new projects at a time due to demand and the time I place within each project. I provide bright, whimsical children's book illustration in watercolor and ink. The style I provide is shown in my portfolio so please feel free to take a peek! I highly enjoy working with new authors and currently have a long list of 'new authors' that I've had the pleasure of assisting with multiple book projects now. I provide high quality work, to your specifications. I work WITH you the entire process, each step. I also can work within strict time limits while still providing high quality work. I am known for my flexibility and willingness to work with your ideas. I love I can use my creativity to help people with their projects! I am always drawing and acquiring new skills to use in the projects. Communicating with clients while working on their projects is always enjoyable as we get the specifics of what they need. Work Quality: Cristal's work is exactly what I wanted for my book illustration. She was able to bring my vision to life using my storyline and drawing the characters to resemble each family member. Her water colors are vibrant and brought life to each illustration. Professionalism: Cristal was very organized and gave detailed information for each step of the illustration process. We were able to come up with a deadline and she stuck with it. She not only illustrated my book, but she also provided me with a PDF of each page, sent me a copy of the original paintings and gave me a editable version of the script for each page. Responsiveness: I would email her and within a day she would get back to me with any editing requests I suggested. She was easy to work with and was open for any editing suggestions within reason. Value: For the quality of Cristal's work, amount of work she puts in to each project and her step by step process for each project she is worth every dolor. You know what to expect and she does not ask for a large lump sum before you even see her work. She will send you a full illustration of your book in color to make sure you like it, then you will make a final payment. Punctuality: We set a 2 month deadline and she was done before the deadline. I give her an A++, I will be working with her again!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Children's book illustration, I charge a flat per-page rate, at $85.00 per illustrated page, depending on if you need formatting assistance along with illustration work. I have illustrated 50+ books within the last 5+ years, so I am efficient, creative and reliable.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to review your thoughts on your project- what are you aiming for? For example, if a children's book, what is your age range? Do you have a particular style you prefer? I am a traditional watercolor and ink artist: I have a playful, somewhat whimsical style. I always encourage questions a well! For a book the process: first step is reading through the script! I can assist with page breaks, but always happy to see your ideas as well! After that, we work on character design: this part takes this longest! However, once we figure out the characters, it's smooth sailing. After you approve character design, I sketch quick page layout drafts: this is for illustration placement on the page. After you approve those, I do final watercolor paintings for you! Regardless of project type, I work with you EACH step! I'm happy to send a more detailed process for you to review as well.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts with emphasis on drawing from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. I also participate in art festivals to get an idea of what new work is being produced by fellow artists. Member of Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
