When I first meet your husband to go over the jobsite about your deck we originally thought it was only 6-8 boards that needed repair and staining. I mentioned to him its best to repair things now instead of it costing more down the road and he agreed. I sent over an estimate for the board repairs and deck staining. Breaking down each individual cost for the estimate for the total amount. Talked to your husband on the phone after you both agreed to the estimate. I told him, that I was currently on a deck staining job and your next when I finished up. The start date would be after a couple days after the beginning of June. He said no problem and I ask him when did you need deck completed by he stated June 21st daughter graduation party. I replied ok no problem. Let husband know on 9th of June that we will be out to start on deck on 10th due to the weather. We started taking a fews boards off that needed repaired and found out that it was more boards than we originally seen. Nick and I came to you and your husband about the new existing problem with more boards that needed repair and major joist boards and saftey concerns. Nick explained to you and your husband the options and stated the repairs are $2,500 for the boards only. You and your husband both said, "how happy that you were that we explained what was going on with other rotted out boards and your biggest concern was saftey". Yes Nick asked for half down for materials. Nick repaired 42 boards total including and the support joist boards that had rotted to make deck safe to have the graduation party. Yes your husband did let me know that he squared up with Nick on repairs for boards. I emailed over a revised invoice for deck staining cost with materials only, and took off the board repairs for the 6-8 boards we originally thought needed repair. Your husband never looked at the revised invoice until I texted him that I needed money for materials. He called and we discuss that he didn't see the revised amount and didn't know that it was additional $1,300 for staining. I told him yes it was and the $2,500 was materials, dumping, and labor. I mentioned to him I don't do payments for customers, but make an acception to the rule. I ask for money for materials and a deposit to get started and make payments on the balance due. You and your husband were willing to do that and appreciate me working with both of you due to the graduation party finances. I never received a deposit to start only $150 for stain. So all week leading up to your event it rained, we knew that it was impeding the process of staining the deck. I suggested to your husband that the wood needs to dry out its still wet from the rain, when I started scraping the old stain off the wood. I came up with a possible idea to him can you get the green astro turf to put on the floor and some type of cover for the spindles since the weather was hindering me to stain the deck. He said that he would mention it to his wife. He called me with you on the phone and the both of you agreed on that the turf was a good idea. We also was on phone brain storming to come up with ideas to cover up the spindles. You was so addiment that floor idea was good, but the idea for the spindles was ghetto and you don't do ghetto. So I talked to your husband on a Thursday evening when he was coming home from out of town. He ask me can the stairs be stained. I explained to him that it rained all week and the wood is old and needs to dry out to stained it. He ask what can he do for steps I mentioned put green turf going down the steps tack it down. He said ok he understands. He text me the next day stating that you were addiment about getting the steps done and re-doing them over evening if they get ruin no matter what. I replied that the wood needs to dry out as mentioned the day before and you can't stain wet wood its not going to adhere to the wood. I mentioned I'm a professional and don't do business in that manner and the both of you can do it and take the responsibility of it not done correctly. I stated that I will drop off the stain that I purchased and refund the balance of remaining money for additional stain purchase y'all agreed. When I arrive at your residence with stain you answered the door came outside and proceeded to have a conversation with about that you wasn't happy, and that I need to do what a paying customers want. That you and your husband have to stop other plans to do steps, and I mentioned to you that being the professional and knowing the product the surface needs to be dry to apply to make it adhere to the surface. You weren't trying to understand what I was saying and kept over talking me to explain why. You wanted me to stained the steps no matter what. You were telling me that you was going refer me to other folks and do some more things for y'all around the house, but will not be doing so in the future. Also, You stated another business came out gave you a similar original quote and could've started a lot sooner and have it done by the 14th. I told you I'm not going to do it and that you and husband can take that risk of stain not drying and ruin folks shoes and your concrete pad. I apologize and told you that I wasn't getting paid to keep running back and forth to fix something that can be avoided if not done correctly. You proceeded to still over talk me and didn't care what I had to say. I told you this is my knowledge and expertise have a good day. While walking away you proceeded to comment saying "you hate doing business with black folks" and your black. I kept walking away shaking my head and you made another comment "This is why black people can't stay in business they get on your nerves". Which I find very offensive, because I never came at you about race or anything unprofessional. I went over and beyond what the average contractor would have done for not getting a deposit to start for deck. They would repair 6-8 boards and took your money not informing you and your husband about other deck boards needed repaired, brainstorming ideas for alternatives on phone, willing to work with you on payments, professionalism, knowledgment of product, not waisting product, money, and time knowing that it wouldn't work.
