I strive not just to serve as a tutor, but as a mind surgeon who can accurately diagnose intellectual stumbling blocks and perform the customized surgery needed to replace them with more refined patterns of thought. I strongly believe that most students who struggle on a particular subject despite their best efforts do not have some kind of an intellectual disadvantage. Rather, they are struggling to learn how to think about the topic in a way that resonates with them. I also believe that how a student approaches a problem is more important than knowing the actual subject material itself. Learning how to think properly and resonate with the topic in a personalized way sets the foundation for all purposeful learning. I often like to teach by asking questions that guide students through the thinking process. This facilitates a more controlled struggle optimized for their learning. Not only does this help the student more easily internalize the subject material, but it also builds confidence because they remain in control of the problem-solving process.
