What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When we start a new alteration , I'll invite customers to come in for a fitting with there pieces. If we spoke over the phone and it's a formal. I'll ask that you bring your shoes and undergarments that you would like to wear with the piece. Shoes and undergarments make a world of difference and I would love to give you the best fit possible. Some costumers are walk ins and have simple hems. If you know the inseam you like you can just let me know and I will put it on your projects ticket , you can also have a fitting if desired. I have a standered 2 weeks most days and for formals its a standard 4 weeks minimum. Please note that during my busy season I do have a longer wait list, We can and will speak about all that while your in the shop or over the phone. I do have slots for 2-4 rushes a month, I understand life gets in the way and sometimes a rush is needed . but try not to count on this there's only a few openings for this;) I call as soon as your pieces are ready and you can come in at your earliest convenience to pick up , try on if a formal . And then feel wonderful in your perfect piece;)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have enjoyed creating and altering fit and form of beautiful gowns to the simplest of hems and buttons for others now for well over 25 + years. I decided to take the leap into the world of a sweet little ( brick and mortar) shop called Pieces sewing and alterations in 2012 ;) I have been plestntly busy and packed at times ever sense , the best validation for such a leap of faith;)

How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always had a love for altering fabrics and garments of all kinds. I started with my clothing that no longer fit and deconstructed and reconstructed into new upcycled unique one of a piece starting at age 8. My mother would enter my upcycled cloths and creations In shows tailoring and beading so many different kinds of pieces later led I to my first wedding dress alterations at 12yr old, I was hooked! I designed a bingo bag for my grandmother that was such a hit I sold enough to buy my first beautiful red and white brothers sewing machine;) and I never looked back.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have a lot of bridal work and prom dresses . I make and alter dresses to give them a custom fit and personal look for each person unique taste. I enjoy taking a dress and adding sleeves or detailing a gown that may not have anything unique about it. So when we are done it is a amazing pieces that is one of a kind. I also do simple alterations like zippers in jeans or coats to hems in pants.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I have had the pleasure of time with so many of my Costumers. I took the mothers wedding dress that I had altered for her on her special day years ago and now creating her daughter a Bridal jacket and garder from the bodice of this dress. Her daughter came back about 8 months later with her mothers dress to make her soon to arrive sweet baby a christening gown from the same now soon to be grandmas wedding dress. I really can't express how blessed I feel to have three generations of this family share these beautiful life moments with me and to trust and honor me with the opertunity to create for such memorable moments in there lives. I love to take something special and full of memories ,creating with them ,carry on building many more special memories.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
ask question, ask what there specialty is?
Is it home goods, curtains, pillow?
Do they do formals ?
Do they do regular alterations, hem jeans?
Mending, buttons,riped jeans and cloths?
What do they specialize in?
What is there timeline like? If your in need of a rush. It's important to know what there best style is , don't go to a homegoods sewer for formal alteration it's just not quite the same . Seamstresses can do many different kinds of alteration but we have a preferred method of creating and specialty.
