FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I typically use fixed prices. A fixed-price, also known as a lump sum, is a pricing method that sets a total price for a project before any work begins. I estimate the cost of materials and labor and agree to complete the project for that price, regardless of the actual cost. However, sometimes there needs to be a change order, which is added to the initial price. I usually require a down payment which covers the cost of materials and overhead. Sometimes, when requested by the customer, I charge an hourly rate.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The process for starting tackling a project varies depending on the size. To get things rolling, I like to have an initial meeting onsite to review the entirety of the project, get a realistic picture of a time frame, material costs, etc.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 11 years of experience in Finish Carpentry, in which I worked for Riverbend Mill in Morris Connecticut, 3C Contracting in Urbana OH, and myself. My role at Riverbend Mill started out as a cabinet installer and shop worker. After a few years I took on the role of a draftsman for the company. I did this for 4-5 years. Later, I moved to Ohio where I worked for 3C Contracting doing finish carpentry and doors & hardware. The past 7 years I have run my small home improvement business, taking on various residential construction projects in Midwest Ohio.
