Introduction

I have been helping non-native speakers folr more than 15 years and love what I do. I am a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a BA in English Education, an MA in Speech and Theater from the City University of New York, and PhD coursework in Communication at NYU. I have been a teacher since graduating from college — high school English, writing as an adjunct professor at New York University (NYU), and as a private American accent tutor for the past 15 years. I especially love international students, because I know that I will learn as much from you as you will from me. My approach is personal and informal. Living in the US for a few years now, I assume my accent isn't too terrible, but I was definitely plateauing. Suzanne is a great ESL coach. She helped me improve again. She's great at explaining differences between the American and the British accents. I can't recommend her enough!

She is the best English teacher I've ever met. The accent reduction is the toughest part of English learning. She is very carefully listen and diagnose my problem, then try to fix it in the lesson, I love this style and feed back loop. I feel grow my pronunciation very much and I realize how my English was error prone! No other teacher point out the issues with great patient. I highly recommend her.

I started my class with Sue about two months ago and I enjoyed every single class we had together. She helps me to correct my pronunciation and build my confidence in speaking English. We started with the basic vowels and I found I had been mispronouncing those for years! As a non-native speaker, I understand that it takes time to build up vocabularies, correct pronunciations and be familiar with various expressions, but with Sue’s help, I can feel my improvement every week.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
One 60 minute lesson per week is $65 There is a 15% discount per each additional 60 minute session per week. Half hour sessions are $35 This includes a free initial consultation.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I meet with potential students first for a free consultation to determine their goals and needs and answer questions they may have about me and my teaching style. The first teaching session is diagnostic, to evaluate specific areas of difficulty, determine how the student feels comfortable learning (reading, pronunciation exercises, conversation etc). We identify the challenges that others with similar backgrounds also experience. We go on from there, according to each student’s individual needs, at each student’s pace.
