Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: What I like most about my job is the ability to watch a new beginner come into my barn and start to ride, and at the beginning they have trouble and strugle to learn, but eventually there is a breakthrough and it all clicks and the beginner takes that next step to being an intermediate rider and can move on to more complicated riding. When this happens the rider gets a big smile on their face and at that point I know it is all worth it. I love to teach!!

I have had nothing but good experiences withahna Bowman's training. I moved my half Arab Warmblood cross to her training two and a half years ago after no progress was being made in her training. Ahna introduced her to over fences and the horse found a job she loves. Now jumping 4 feet and last year won 7 National Championships at two national Arabian Horse Association shows. Ahna has also worked withy son Nate, who has mild cerebral palsy and can only ride dressage with one hand. Under Ahna's guidance, Nate qualified for the Oregon Dressage Society's state championships the first year of showing. Ahna knows how to work patiently with both horses and riders and helps them succeed. She is both a good dressage trainer as well as very knowledgable in training hunter/jumpers.

I started my daughter Julie on horse lessons a couple of years ago and things started out well until the barn wasn’t providing the horses the proper care. Due to that the instructor had to move further away than we were willing to travel. I then made the mistake of basing the new place of instructions solely on convenience of location. It wasn’t long before I was informed by my wife and daughter that the instructor gave the impression she cared more about what was on the cell phone than what the student was doing on the horse. I then searched for a new facility and instructor and found Bowman Sport horses. Ahna Bowman is the lead instructor and her family is her team. When I first contacted Ahna She asked what Julie’s goals and interest were and then explained how those could be achieved. I then took a tour of the facilities and watched Ahna give some lessons. I have found that the Bowman’s and barn owners all work hard to ensure the horses and facilities are well kept. This of course is part of what they do to provide a safe environment for all. Also it is very evident they love their horses and don’t treat them as just a commodity. In the first lesson Ahna evaluated Julie’s skills and found she had developed some bad habits and also determined she still needed to learn and re-learn some basic ones. From day one Ahna has respected Julie for who she is and how she learns. She is constantly analyzing what Julie is doing and how her horse is reacting. Ahna knows the level of each of her students and horses and provides a good balance of praise and correction for both the rider and the horse. She provides not only instructions to my daughter but explanation, and at a level that she can understood. When necessary she repeats the instruction and explanation until she sees feels it’s been assimilated. She keeps the pace of learning in line with the comfort level of the student but at the same time keeps things progressive. Since being at the barn I have seen the team take the time to help Julie deal with the various challenges in tacking up. But then they haven’t just held her hand in the process they have had her learn by doing. Julie enjoys bonding with the horse while tacking and grooming it. I have never felt Ahna rush a lesson even when it was Scott’s birthday. Scott is Ahna’s husband and partner in her love of horses. I feel Ahna treats you more like a friend than a customer. My daughter’s confidence and equestrian skills have improved much since being under the instruction of Ahna. I am very proud of Julie and happy to have chosen Ahna as her instructor. Ahna Bowman, her family and the barn staff are a great team. The web site ask to say something about what would improve the experience. Of course there is always room for improvement but it is difficult to say what, as I am "green". If I was forced to pick one I would chose something that would make Scott happy. Of course Ahna knows what that is and it would be a blessing for her.

Ahna Bowman is an incredibly knowledgable trainer, she has such a fine tuned eye. She can look at a rider and horse that looks good and with a couple quick tips can make them look amazing. I have been riding, showing, and teaching for 14 years and I've never met someone with such an ability to notice the smallest detail. She always pushes her riders to their fullest potential and is so proud of our success. This is truly a family business, I love being around the barn and at shows with them! They're great with beginners and teaching the basics, safety, and best of all the reason behind things. Truly a classic hunter/jumper trainer with a strong dressage base. Can't say enough good things about Bowman Sport Horses!

Ahna's methods of training bring out the best in the horse and rider. She cares about the horse and trains the rider to understand what enables the horse to perform to its greatest potential. While she is well known in the hunter world, she now has riders moving up the levels in dressage as well. I highly recommend her as a trainer and breeder.

My 7 year old daughter had been asking me for a long time to take horseback riding lessons, and I wasn't even sure where to begin looking. I searched the website and found Bowman Sport Horses. After reading the reviews, I decided to contact them to get more information. Almost immediately, I received a response from Ahna and we set up a date and time that was convenient for my family. A few days before her lesson, Ahna made sure to get information regarding my daughter's experience with horses - which was none. When we arrived, my daughter was immediately taught horse safety and how to tack a horse, as well as the names of the equipment used. Ahna and her family showed a lot of patience while teaching her the basics of horseback riding. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!
