FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My standard rate is $50 per hour for editing, although I frequently lower that rate depending on my availability and the client. I enjoy working with nonprofits, so I'll adjust my rate if it's a cause I'm interested in. I typically set a flat rate for an entire job based so the client knows how much the work is likely to cost them.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We discuss their basic goals and what they hope to get from our collaboration. I usually do an overarching assessment of their work so far and recommend specific ways I can help and what the budget would be. From that point, we sketch out an agreement on what specific work will be done, what the rate will be and when it needs to be completed. I also budget in periodic checkups with the client to make sure that the work is progressing according to plan.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in journalism and more than 25 years experience as a writer, editor, researcher, and publication designer.
