    The Chase

We're having a really good time with Eric and his animals. It's obvious that he loves them dearly. He's a talented instructor focused on steady progress. And he doesn't let anything slip. He's on top of his lessons and repeats tirelessly until a technique is mastered. We are convinced we have found a very good teacher.

    Bowman Sport Horses

    (6 reviews)

My 7 year old daughter had been asking me for a long time to take horseback riding lessons, and I wasn't even sure where to begin looking. I searched the website and found Bowman Sport Horses. After reading the reviews, I decided to contact them to get more information. Almost immediately, I received a response from Ahna and we set up a date and time that was convenient for my family. A few days before her lesson, Ahna made sure to get information regarding my daughter's experience with horses - which was none. When we arrived, my daughter was immediately taught horse safety and how to tack a horse, as well as the names of the equipment used. Ahna and her family showed a lot of patience while teaching her the basics of horseback riding. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

    Rebekah Larimer Training

    (6 reviews)

Harley and I have been taking lessons since Fall 10 and we have come leaps and bounds with only a few real leaps and bounds involved. HAHA. My horse and I are more engaged with each other. I embrace natural horsemanship and the ground work transfers to the riding. Having to ride once a week no matter what really helps. I reccommend Rebekah heartily.

I have only worked with Karen for about a month now but I am so impressed. I came back to riding after a long time off as a very rusty re-beginner. her human communication and coaching knowledge are clear, professional and caring. Her horse knowledge is way above par and I am learning from her each time. I am very pleased and would highly recommend her and her lesson horses.

    Train Me Not My Horse

Meet and greet: Would you like to get up close and personal with a horse and see for yourself why these beautiful animals garner so much affection? Maybe you’ve thought about riding a horse or taking lessons but felt unsure about being around a horse, or maybe you’ve always been a bit afraid and would like to conquer your fear? Here is your chance to come out and see what it is all about. Come spend some time with one of our beautiful animals. Let us give you a brief introduction into the life of a horse. We will show you how to safely approach a horse, how to say ‘hi,’ how much they love to be brushed, and how soft their noses are. The Basics and Groundwork 101 (for you and your horse): * The Basics - I thought my horse had issues when I got him. He would not lunge, would not follow me, and he did not even want to lower his head for me to put a halter on him. After a lot of trial and error, some lessons, research, and a bunch of questions, I realized that he knew these things. I just did not know how to ask for them. Let me come to you and show you the basics or give you a hand with all those odd little things that are stopping you from enjoying your horse. * Groundwork 101 – Yes, there were a lot of things I needed to learn but my horse did have issues. He crowded me when we walked. He would not get out of the way when needed. He was jumpy and freaked out if there were any other horses around. Not only do these kinds of issues interfere with your relationship with your horse, but they can also be safety concerns. A consistent groundwork routine worked wonders with AJ, and it can help you and your equine partner as well. Let me help cure some of your horse’s bad habits. Lessons: Judy offers horsemanship and riding lessons to all levels and all ages at Sauvie Island Stables. Do you want to learn how to control your horse from the saddle? Do you want to take your horse out to a trail, tack up, and jump on with the confidence that your horse is not going to spoke at every leaf that floats by on the ground? Maybe you need to brush up on your horsemanship skills. Maybe you would like to start showing again. Come on out and let us see where we can take you. Let us show you how you can gain control of your horse and how the end of the ride turns out. We have a few open times for new (brand new or new to us) riders to come out for riding lessons. Let us know your level of riding skills and what you are interested in. Do you need something else? Give us a call and let’s see if we can help you in any way.

The Chase

What do you love about your job?

I have the greatest job in the world. Not only do I get to spend my day with some of the most amazing animals on the planet, but I have the opportunity to introduce people of all ages to a sport that, for many of them, will become a lifelong passion. To teach people to ride, understand, and communicate with horses is both fun and rewarding. My job, as mentor, coach, and fellow horseman, has allowed me to form great long-lasting friendships with many of my clients. I'm truly blessed to be in this profession.

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

Although I've been riding horses since I was 11 years old, I was a paramedic in real life. I rode and competed on my days off. Over time, the long hours and stress of my job prompted me to look for something else. I had been training horses and teaching riding part time, so in 1993, I decided to become a professional. Inspired by my former coaches, some of the most respected horsepeople in the country, I opened my first riding academy. Two years later, I moved to the Sherwood area and began my current business The Chase.
