FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Initally a visit to get acquainted and discuss the scope of the project. At that time I can estimate the time that will be required and the cost of the plans. I measure an existing house and draw it up on CAD to get started with a remodel. Then I usually come up with several possible solutions to present to the home owner. With new construction I will start with the client's sketch or some floorplans that they have liked online and work up some variations on that theme. We can meet to discuss these ideas and after that meeting we can continue to meet for subsequent visits or, if they prefer, we can also use electronic ways to check out my new ideas and refinements.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied interior space management, kitchen and bath design and CAD at Oregon State University. I have also owner built a house and moved and remodeled another of my houses. Most of my learning is hands on. I also have attended many architect extended education sessions to keep up with changes to the codes and structural engineering requirements.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started by owner building my own house in the early 80s. Interest in design actually started before that but after moving to Oregon and working on the remodel of my second house, I decided to pursue that dream.
