Introduction
Fredrik has thoroughly studied the science of the Acoustic Piano and Acoustic Piano Sound production, and tunes Pianos completely by ear, like in the olden days. He was trained in the Virgil E. Smith method of aural concert tuning, and tunes Pianos by listening to beats and intervals, instead of using electronic or computerized tuning aids. He has been exhaustively tested and certified by the Piano Technician’s Guild; a national organization created as a benchmark for professional Piano Technicians to test their skills, and scored in the 94th percentile among thousands of professional Piano tuners nationwide, to earn the coveted title of Registered Piano Technician (RPT) in 2012. This award is only given to those who after three days of grueling testing of timed repair procedures, Piano construction theory, and Aural Piano Tuning, are found to exhibit masterful skills, as judged by a panel of national Piano Service experts. Fredrik has experience Rebuilding antique Pianos, including Soundboard restorations, Bridge remanufacturing, Pin block replacements, and Action restorations, and is also a certified Master field installer of the efficient Piano Life Saver system, by Damppchaser corporation. With his well rounded background in so many intertwined fields of expertise all related to Pianos and Piano performance, he brings a tremendous resource of knowledge and experience to his private clientele.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Be cautious of hiring a Tuner who uses a tuning machine or computer program to tune your Piano. Pianos are mathematically imperfect and must be tuned by the artistic skill of listening, and not by computer calculations and algorithms. Pianos are instruments and should be serviced by highly trained Piano Technicians exclusively. Anyone can buy a tuning machine and charge money to tweak tuning pins, but real Piano Tuning takes years of diligent practice and experience to master, producing a professional result every time, because by listening, the imperfections and individual characteristics of each Piano is addressed in the most brilliant and perfect way possible, each and every time. A tuning machine cannot hear the entire overtone series of a piano note, and only listens to one tenth of the sound, while trying to estimate its correct placement; But human hearing is far more sophisticated than that of a machine. That much more sophisticated therefore is a Piano Tuning done by the listening of a highly trained human ear, which is called; Aural Piano Tuning - Piano Tuning by Ear.
