Sandy served a dual role with our family. When my daughter was 6 she started at a school with a Deaf signing program. Prior to that she went to a school with hearing peers and an oral program. It didn't seem as though it was successful, so we sought out advice and decided a school with a program that taught children in sign language was best for her. My daughter started learning sign in class and my husband and I were taking community classes in order to communicate with our daughter. Well, as most children do, she picked it up much faster than we did. By the age of 10 she had left us in the dust. We were proud but knew we needed to do something else because her homework was getting more difficult to help her with because of the communication gap. Sandy was referred to us by one of my daughter's interpreters. They had apparently worked together in the past as interpreters and knew that Sandy had also taught and tutored. We contacted her and luckily we were able to set up lessons. She served a dual role because once a week she would meet with my daughter for tutoring and homework help. They usually met on Wednesdays because of early dismissal at the local library and go over whatever my daughter was working on in class, in sign so that she could understand it. Then she would meet with us once or twice a week depending on what all our schedules permitted and work with us on ASL skills. Come to think of it, I wish we had the technology we do now back then. This was before video chats were a thing, it would have made it so much easier. But, the point is, she helped us to be able to continue to communicate with our daughter and that's what we wanted. I'd recommend Sandy for classes or tutoring both in ASL and for Deaf students. Don't know where we would have been without her help during those times.

It was a pleasure to meet you all. I'm so glad I was able to help out, and to hear that you all have been able to apply the lesson to your lives already. I look forward to the next one.

I spent much of my senior internship working alongside Sandy as her mentee. When I was interpreting, Sandy was a great team. She was patient and gracious, feeding me signs I didn’t know. She would let me struggle (in a good way) and challenge me to work through a complex concept without bailing me out too early. It was in those moments when I felt the most growth. After our job she would spend time debriefing with me and providing feedback on what I did well, where I could have improved, and provided an alternate way to sign a certain concept that I may have struggled with. I learned so much from her.The best part, she also welcomed feedback from me too. She would look for ways to grow herself. Even after you’re certified, there’s room for growth. Sandy’s humble nature, elite proficiency in the language, love for the Deaf community, and desire to raise up future interpreters is why you should choose Sandy as your mentor. If we lived closer together, I’d be honored to work alongside her now as a professional.

When I was doing my very first assignment for my ITP at Miami Dade College, I had the pleasure of working with Alana Grunspan and her team, Sandy Pascual. She knew how make me feel at ease, gave amazing advice and feedback on my interpreting skills. the best piece of advice she ever told me during my time with er is "Everyone has their off days, even when you're certified. Don't let the mistakes bother you as we all make them." While my time with Sandy was short, the advice she gave me really helped me understand how to become a professional interpreter.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I wish we would have had more time to work together, but I am very proud to see where you have gone in your interpreting career!

A few years ago I did an internship in Miami and Sandy was one of my mentors. I cannot say enough good things about her! She was very professional while also making it a very comfortable and fun learning environment! Sandy pushed me to excel while also having the clients best interest in mind. It was such a great experience learning from her and I would recommend her to anyone who needs an interpreter or mentor/tutor!
