I had a fairly big project. We are remodeling a kitchen which involved removing a fireplace and a wall. This left a open area of approx. 25 sq. ft that needs to have flooring added to match some existing wood flooring. The existing wood flooring in the dining room, hallway, two bedrooms, and a walk-in closet had been refinished about 25 years ago and needed a refresh.I got several estimates and Alex was somewhere in the middle pricewise. Based on his reviews and talking to him when he came by to give me the estimate I crossed my fingers and chose Alex.I had debated about doing the work myself and had purchased some flooring. Alex came right on time to get started and started to lay out the pieces to start patching the open areas when he decided what I had purchased didn't match. I had white oak, and after some sanding it looked like the new floor was a variation of red oak. He took the time to go to a wood supplier to get their opinion and try to find something that would match. He bought some wood and temporarily installed, sanded, and added some three different finishes to we could determine what looked the best.Even after all that, he wasn't totally satisfied and went back to the wood store one more time to see if there was something slightly better. I was satisfied with what he had gotten the first time, but he wanted to be sure. It turned out there wasn't anything better and he got to work patching in the holes and finishing the entire floor.He's a craftsman and perfectionist in his work. We're very satisfied with the results. The pictures are of the dining and include the patched area. The floor is very smooth, with no sanding marks or waves from the sanding process. He applies a filler over the entire floor, not just obvious cracks, so it very uniform. He applied a sealer that gave it color similar to an oil finish, but it was water-based. Then he applied coats of a clear water based finish. It really is beautiful.He also replaced some old metal floor vents and a large return vent with wood vents to match the floor. Everything looks great and exceeds our expectations.Alex was great to work with. He was here when he said he would be and did what was needed to get the results he wanted. He even left behind a cleaning kit for the floor made by the manufacturer of the finish he used. Highly recommended.
