FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I became a personal trainer and health coach because nothing else lights up my imagination, creativity, and sense of fulfillment more than helping someone improve their health. As a lifelong athlete, exercise has always been an integral part of my life. I was a competitive equestrian for 14 years, a defensive volleyball player, and a midfielder on the Skidmore Field Hockey team, which during my time won the league championships 4 years in a row, made 4 NCAA appearances, including 1 Final Four appearance. Since graduating from Skidmore, I have become interested in learning about all the different types of exercise out there. I am having the most fun trying out different exercise classes and types of exercise, and my personal training practice reflects what I've learned. I became interested in nutrition during college. There are 1,000s of different dietary theories, and I wanted to know why no one can agree on what the best diet is. I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition as a certified health coach, where I learned about many of the dietary theories, and why one diet works for one person, but may not work for another.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with clients of all ages, body types, fitness levels, and fitness goals. I work hard to make sure that my workouts are tailored to each specific client. The majority of my client base are female. I like to bring my yoga and barre practice to my training practice to build long, lean muscles and correct posture and alignment. I also have a great deal of experience working with clients dealing with or recovering from injuries. I have worked with clients post rehab, who have graduated from physical therapy but still feel they need help taking their fitness to the next level. I have also worked with clients with anything from chronic aches and pains to congenital heart issues.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Be clear about what you are looking for and what your goals are! Personal training is just that-personal! Not every trainer has the same philosophy about health and exercise, and you want to make sure their philosophy is in line with yours.
