After switching teachers to Amber over a year ago, I have greatly changed as a musician. She has me thinking in new ways when it comes to intonation, tone quality and musicianship. With her guidance, I was able to successfully audition to programs such as Interlochen Center for the Arts and Pennsylvania Music Educators Association.

Amber as been a very knowledgeable and upbuilding instructor. Even though I live many miles away, we have managed to have weekly lessons via video conference. Highly recommended!

    Aspiring Violin Player, Current Beginner
I recently started learning the violin as an adult beginner with Ms Reed. I was worried that it would be very difficult as an adult beginner, but have a great teacher is making big difference. She is able to identity my weak areas, and then forces me to concentrate on the excersises that benefit me the most. I feel very confident that I am learning to play the correct way, and this will be very beneficial as my skill progresses. If you're willing to put in lots of hard work, Ms Reed will guide you along the learning experience and it may surprise you how quickly your knowledge and ability can grow.

Amber is a very patient, encouraging teacher who helps my son look beyond the initial drudgery of learning how to hold a bow, place fingers, etc. He is already playing a few songs of his choice after only a couple of months of lessons. The passion she has for playing the viola and violin is always evident.

My 10 year old daughter takes lessons via Google Hangouts because we are out of state. Amber Reed is a great teacher and continues to push and encourage my daughter at her level. She has been learning tremendously fast and is excited about her lessons because Amber makes it fun.

Amber is an extremely involved teacher. I find that my progress with the violin is not as fast as most other people who take up the instrument, and I am unable to hear many of the mistakes I make. Despite this, she has been very patient in helping me understand what mistakes I am making and why. In between scheduled lessons, Amber has been consistent in answering questions, and suggesting sheet music. At first I was hesitant about taking musical lessons online, but Im very happy with what I am learning.

As an adult learner, knowing nothing about the violin, Amber's candidness and patience has led me over the past 6 months to find intrinsic and extrinsic reward in my playing. Her expertise is immediately demonstrated, and it is clear to the learner she authentically wants her student to experience success and feel pride. Flexible and understanding, I would recommend adult and younger enthusiasts alike to avail themselves of her professional and friendly instruction.

Amber was such an amazing teacher!! She made it fun to learn the violin and she was extremely patient with me. She is encouraging, especially when it can be really frustrating in the beginning to learn a new instrument. I highly recommend hiring her :)

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lesson payments are collected the first lesson of every month. Wiggle room is available on the rate if needed.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Lessons include ear training, technique building through scales, etudes and various exercises, along with repertoire. You'll learn to play by ear and read music. Because there is so much to do in each lesson, 90% of my students take an hour lesson. Half hour lessons are also available too.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Arizona and a Master of Music from Temple University in Viola Performance. I perform with The Arden Theater, and have performed all over the world including China, Italy, England, and the USA.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I followed what gives me the most joy.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I work with children, young adults, and adults. Some students are hobbyists, while others are headed on the professional path.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I offer masterclasses with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, studio recitals, and studio outings to concerts. I'm currently hosting monthly online masterclasses to so that the studio can interact more. As a music teacher, my heart is really open to all of my students. I care about each and every one of them and want them to do well in all that they do!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
See what else they offer additionally.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I would be interested to know how serious are they about playing. Is this something you're going to commit to every week? Are you going to rent an instrument or buy? (Ask the teacher to come with you to buy an instrument!!) What style are you interested in learning?
