I just started playing the viola for the first time three months ago. Amber is a wonderful teacher and very passionate about her job. She is very patient and always encourages me to do my best. I have had an amazing time learning from her. I would highly recommend her to beginners and professionals alike.

About this pro

In addition to lessons, I hold monthly group classes so that students can practice playing through music that is learned in lessons. Whether it's from the classical repertoire, folk music, movie scores, or holiday-themed songs, we have a lot of fun playing as a group! I also have a group class to help us all get over the fear of performing. Recitals are held twice a year as well! Lessons are centered around building a strong classical technique, a good ear, and exciting repertoire to match! I have students of all ages and levels, but the majority of my students are adult beginners! My younger students are active in youth orchestras around Philadelphia and suburbs, and participate in summer music festivals worldwide! I have a Bachelor's degree in Viola Performance from the University of Arizona where I studied with international soloist, Hong Mei Xiao, and a Master's degree from Temple University in Viola Performance where I studied with Kerri Ryan, from the acclaimed Philadelphia Orchestra. I have studied all over the world, most heavily in China and Europe during the summers as well as performed in New York's Carnegie Hall and concert halls across the world. I love teaching. It's definitely my passion and I'm so excited to share my experience with you!! Music is an incredible way to discover more about yourself. I love working with my students and seeing their progress!

    Q & A

    • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lesson payments are collected the first lesson of every month. Wiggle room is available on the rate if needed.
    • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Lessons include ear training, technique building through scales, etudes and various exercises, along with repertoire. You'll learn to play by ear and read music. Because there is so much to do in each lesson, 90% of my students take an hour lesson. Half hour lessons are also available too.
    • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Arizona and a Master of Music from Temple University in Viola Performance, and am currently auditioning for Doctorate programs. I have performed with The Arden Theater here in Philadelphia, and have performed solo, in a chamber setting, and orchestral settings in the finest concert halls across China, Italy, England, and the USA.
Coverage Area for Violin Viola Masterclass is about 30+ miles of Philadelphia, PA.
