FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Never had a choice. It's been my calling since I was a child. I used to record my own guitar playing, bouncing between a cassette deck and a 2 track reel to reel when I was a teenager. This is all I've ever wanted.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Please feel free to call and or visit the studio. We are a creative service provider. The atmosphere of the studio and the personal expertise in helping musicians bring out their best performance are key to what we offer. Musicians are welcome to record one song (solo) for free to get a feel for the studio and sample the extraordinary sound quality we offer.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
For the last bunch of years consumer recording equipment has gotten cheap and musicians have often tried their hand at recording at home. In limited ways that can be successful, but often it is not in terms of creating a professional product. The reason being that the recording process is a chain. It starts with great creativity in writing and performance and playing a great instrument. But then it includes recording in a professional space. From quiet instruments all that's required in a quiet room, but for louder instruments (like drums), the acoustics of the room play a key role. a small, dead space, will sound like a small/dead space. Beyond that there is the gear. From mic to cable to mic pre to outboard gear (compressors/EQs) to digital converters to the speakers being listened to, to the room those speakers are in, they all play a critical role in capturing professional quality sound. I've designed built over 1/2 a dozen studios for myself and others. Creating a listening environment free of anomalies is incredibly difficult. A few pieces of foam on the wall will not get you there. The bottom line is that you can produce a functional recording at home if you have skills, but if you want a professional recording, one that instantly will stand out from the crowd, there is still no substitute for working in a professional studio. Beyond the gear and the room, there is also the enormous benefit of having a trained set of ears on the other side of the recording glass, helping you to get your best performance to go with your professional sound quality. I have been producing singers/bands for 20 years. My first professional album was producing/engineering Sloan Wainwright, before the days of auto-tune :). She landed a touring and record deal within weeks of finishing her album. If you want to create a professional work. A recording that you and your family will cherish forever.
