About
I separate myself from many other guitar teachers because I believe I am very patient and thorough with every one of my students. I also have a wide variety of experiences playing many different types of music and I've been teaching for 27 years. I can adjust my teaching style to the beginner to the most advanced students. I also hold on to students for many years, sometimes as long as 10+ years. I love to see the progress my students undergo throughout their time with me. It's great to see them get excited playing a piece of music they have spent many weeks learning.

I started taking lessons with Todd in January and I'm genuinely glad I found him. I've played guitar for a while, but the fretboard always felt like this mysterious thing I couldn't quite decode. I'd get by on feel and muscle memory, but theory terminology just didn't stick. A few months in with Todd and it's finally clicking. Like, actually clicking. What makes him a great teacher isn't just that he knows his stuff, it's that he's patient enough to meet you where you are and smart enough to push you just past your comfort zone. He doesn't have a one-size-fits-all curriculum he's running through. He pays attention to what you're trying to accomplish and shapes the lessons around that. If you're an adult learner who's felt stuck or intimidated by the theoretical side of guitar, Todd's the kind of teacher who makes it feel approachable without dumbing it down. I'm leaving every lesson with something I can actually use, and more importantly, something that makes sense. Highly recommend!

Details: 26 - 44 years old • No formal training; some self-taught experience • Yes, can read guitar tabs • What the teacher recommends • What the teacher recommends • Rock • Folk • Yes, the student has an instrument • I'm flexible • At the pro’s location

My 5 year old daughter took guitar lessons with Todd and she had a wonderful experience. He was patient and enthusiastic. He kept the lessons appropriately basic for her level, but she always left feeling proud of what she learned and was able to practice during the week and show us what she had done in class. We will continue taking lessons with Todd and we look forward to learning more!

Our young daughter has had 2 lessons so far with Todd. I was sitting in on one of them and found that Todd is very, very patient and kind! It's hard to teach a four and a half year old an instrument, we'll try for a month or two and see where she's at then. But I'm confident she'll soon start to enjoy the lessons with Todd!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have taken lessons personally from guitar instructors for about 7 or 8 years. I continue to learn by talking to other professional musicians and teachers that may have specialized knowledge that I currently do not have.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I got started out in college, giving lessons to children and adults back in the mid 1990's. I have always had a passion for music and have been in various musical projects since the late 1980's. Even though I worked other types of jobs over the years, I continued to teach guitar because I felt I could pass on my knowledge of music and guitar techniques to others. It is always a great feeling to reconnect with students that I have taught over the years. Some have even asked me to see them perform music at local venues!

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with students of all ages. I can work with a 4 or 5 year old, teaching him/her basic chords, notes, and nursery rhyme songs. Adults or teenagers are also a large part of my student base. Many of them want to learn their favorite tunes along with soloing techniques, music reading, and music theory fundamentals.
