Kyle was hired to paint a kitchen, bedroom, and living room. He came prepared with all of the supplies needed and took care in protecting all ceilings and cabinets. The walls look flawless!

I gave Kyle a 2 because he was not up front about his painting experience at the estimate and lacked professionalism. He painted the walls of our interior and also did some patch work for us and was also lined up to paint our cabinets. Kyle did not paint our cabinets because we asked him to leave before he was able to complete the job. We let him know when he was starting the cabinets that he would not have access to our house over the weekend when we were out of town. Apparently he planned on working then and taking a day off during the week. He had 4 days to finish the cabinets before the weekend, so this was surprising that he would need this time. We had them painted the next week by an experienced professional who had it done in 2 days and charged us less. If Kyle had the experience he said he had at the estimate, he would have been able to easily complete the job in this time. I was actually worried about writing this review because he was so volatile when I told him the weekend was not going to work. I hope Kyle can use this review in a positive way. I hope that he will gain more experience and expertise before charging an expert level price. I also hope that he will work on communicating more affectively with his clients so that they know his level of experience before they hire him. He did an OK job on our walls. The problem was the mess he left behind. There was paint everywhere. I took pictures of it all in case we had him back to fix things, but we would not let this guy back in our house. My husband is a very peaceful person and he was ready to call the police after we told him about the schedule change. He really was not able to be calm or professional in any manner. We have small children and he called me many unmentionable things in front of them and my husband. Very disrespectful and unprofessional. We had to pay our new painter to fix all of the ceilings and patchwork. Kyle was never hired to paint the ceilings but after painting the walls there was gray paint in all of the rooms on the edge of the ceilings. He even told my husband at a couple of points that he really didn't know what he was doing and wasn't sure if he wanted to be a painter. He left early a few days because he said he was too frustrated to continue painting. Wish I would have known this when I hired him. Now I have had to pay double to fix the mistakes. He also broke our king size bed, ruined a shower curtain, and permanently scratched a sink in our kids bathroom. These things are minor compared to having someone deceive you and feel like you were taken advantage of. We have found awesome people through Thumbtack in the past so this was a disappointing experience and writing a poor review is something you never want to do. After thinking about it for a month, I've decided it is important for other people to know about our experience Sorry, Kyle and wishing you better things in the future.

Caroline, as you know I was the one that terminated our working relationship, so I was fully aware a negative review would be coming. But sometimes it's better to walk away and take the lump than continue to be abused. Hiring someone to complete a job does not give you ownership of that person. Firstly, there is a difference between slapping a few coats of paint on a cabinet and doing a complete refinish, you wanted a complete refinish but did not want to pay for it. Secondly, I have to wonder why you would Hire me to do your cabinets if I had done such a bad job in the house? You had an entire week to review my work. Before hiring me for another project. As for the schedule change, we had discussed me painting the cabinet frames over the weekend so that I did not expose your asthmatic daughter to the harmful VOC'S in the primer that must be used on oak. When you changed your mind and I questioned you, you became very combative and began screaming in my face and standing over me as I worked on my knees. I'm a very patient man, but I won't be threatened. That is why I left and I'm glad that I did. As for your Husband and questioning whether I wanted to be a painter or not. I recently invested over 5 thousand dollars in equipment. The same equipment I was trying to pack in my truck as you harassed me and threatened to call the police, over a check that I held off cashing, because I could forsee that you were a volatile person. My only wish is that thumbtack offered reviews of customers so that I could warn other people trying to run a small business.
