Introduction: I am actively involved with my students for every minute of their lessons, whether I am listening, demonstrating, or playing along with them. My goal is for students to enjoy music, to make playing a regular part of their lives, and to develop as musicians, so we spend time on not only repertoire, theory, and technique but also on learning how to practice. Each student is an individual who has particular goals and a personal style of learning and communicating, so lesson materials and teaching approach vary depending upon what I think will best serve that student. I am thrilled to hear students develop as musicians, to see them concentrate, work hard, and achieve mastery.

Time-saver review: Katie is amazing. You should take the advice of my fellow student's review. Stop looking for piano teachers and call Katie! Long version: About a year ago, I decided I wanted how to play an instrument. Iâm 27, with very little music background, but I had a keyboard at my house so I thought I'd give that a shot. I read all of Katie's reviews and decided to contact her about lessons. I also asked and friend (and musician) if he had any recommendations - he suggested Katie (not knowing I had contacted her), so I felt comfortable in my choice. I went into this with no expectations. At my first lesson, I told Katie that I may not do this for long, but I wanted to give it a shot. Within a few weeks, I was hooked! I was playing scales and learning to read music. Almost a year later, I'm still at it, with no end in sight. Katie's teaching style is great for all learners. I've met many of her students, ranging from young children to older adults. They all love her. One of my favorite things about Katie is her patience. She understands that I'm busy with other things and doesn't get angry if I don't get to something that she has assigned. At the same time, she pushes you to improve and always encourages your development. Katie is also very helpful outside of lessons. If I ever run into questions between lessons, I simply give her a call or send her an email. She responds quickly, with detailed answers. Most importantly, Katie (and her pups) are friendly and fun to be around. As far as her musical skills go, Katie truly a master pianist. Sometimes she plays a song for me and it literally blows my mind. After you start taking lessons, if you ever feel discouraged, just ask her to play something for you...it will instantly inspire you to keep playing! Katie helped turn my interest into a passion, and I'm forever grateful. I highly suggest her services to anyone looking to learn how to play piano.

I am one of Katie's adult students. I found her almost a year ago, when I was looking for a new teacher after my teacher of 13 years had moved from the area. . There is always more to learn, and Katie is an excellent teacher, breaking new theory (new for me anyway!) or pieces of music into manageable steps so that I am challenged but not overwhelmed. She is available between lessons to answer questions, and I invariably have questions! Katie is very affirming and positive, and our lessons are fun. I highly recommend her.

She is very open to crazy schedules. She is willing to work with you on timing of your lesson. She teaches very well to adults. She has you playing day one in a fun way. This makes you want to continue. I highly recommend her as a teacher.

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons are once per week, and the cost per lesson depends upon the length of the lesson -- 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes. Lessons are paid at the beginning of the month for each month. If a student cancels a lesson with less than 24 hours' notice, that lesson is charged, but I'll do my best to reschedule it. If I cancel a lesson, we'll either reschedule or that lesson will be credited toward the next month.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I have a number of approaches to teaching. The path taken depends upon the student's history and experience and my own assessment of that student's personality and learning style.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a professional musician for 40 years, so I play my instrument regularly in a variety of settings. I have taught privately for 20 years and stay current with teaching methods, materials, and philosophies.
