Introduction: I love to sew clothing, and I want to teach you how to do what I do, so that you can experience the same joy and satisfaction that I do from this amazing pastime. I can also teach you how to make all kinds of crafty items - including tote bags, headbands, zipper bags, throw pillow covers and other home decorating items, and everything in between! I am especially interested in working with beginners, and with anyone who is interested in learning how to work with a sewing pattern. Learning to read a sewing pattern unlocks a vast world of creative opportunities, and it would be my privilege to hand you the key. What I like most about sewing is that it’s creativity grounded by mathematical precision. It’s a place where you can let your imagination run wild, while remaining fully in control as you work to execute a carefully laid out plan, step by step. And at the end of it all, you get a one-of-a-kind outfit to wear (or item to use) that is exactly to your taste. Win! I have been sewing for over three years, and I’m entirely self-taught based on utilizing books and online resources, and sewing my way through countless sewing patterns. My favorite things to make are dresses, but I have experience making pants, skirts, shirts, shorts, and pajamas (and yes, tons of face masks!). I have dramatically reduced my clothing expense budget since I started sewing, and my wardrobe has never been as colorful or as varied as it is now. The fact that I’ve not been sewing my entire life positions me well to teach other beginners and others who have maybe made a thing or two, but want to take their craft to the next level. I was where you are not too long ago. Let me inspire and show you how to do what I’ve learned to do in a relatively short period of time. I am friendly, down to earth, and methodical, and I love to share my knowledge with others. I care about your learning experience and I will work hard to make sure you succeed. Everyone learns in a different way and I am prepared to adapt as needed to your needs! Prior to doing this, as part of my work history I spent several years working for a university on a team that worked to transform in-person college courses into multimedia-rich online learning experiences. And as a licensed attorney, I spent a few years as in-house counsel to an educational technology company. This background has served me well in my current role! I am not afraid of technology, and I love to produce instructional videos (which I publish to YouTube) to help my students. For my entire life I have stayed on the cutting edge of technology, and I am passionate about both education and sewing; it’s no wonder that I love serving the online community of sewing learners!
