FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Continuing education is extremely important in my industry with all the new tools and products that are constantly coming out. New studies are always being done and new codes and laws are always going into effect. I recently got my certification to be able to work with surfaces contaminated with lead paint. I try to get to at least 2 or 3 trade shows per year just to stay on top of new information. I consider my knowledge of the industry one of the most significant aspects of my company.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Being in construction is what I have been born to do. Ever since I was a kid measuring things around the house with a tape measure and fixing things with pretend tools. At age 13 I started carrying tools for a general construction company and worked summers for him learning basics about all aspects of home remodeling (plumbing, electric, drywall, windows, doors, tile, framing, etc.) After 2 summers with him I went to work for a custom carpenter and really worked on my finish skills. I did a lot of cabinet work and learned to specialize in kitchens and intricate trim work. I loved what I was doing and I stayed with him off and on during school for about 5 years. In September of 2006 I started at The Williamson Free School Of Mechanical Trades. After 3 years in their carpentry program I graduated with a degree in Construction Technology with an emphasis in carpentry. After graduating I started working with a remodeling company and decided it wasn't the right fit for me. After a short time I decided to venture out on my own and started C. Goodman Carpentry and I specialize in kitchens finish work, but I am skilled in all aspects of home renovation.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The jobs i typically take are multi aspect home renovations. I try to keep to the higher end jobs including difficult/elaborate trim, kitchens, and tile work.
