Private Yoga Instruction
We had our first session with Mark and it was amazing. Both my husband and I really like Mark's approach to yoga. With wealth of experience and knowledge, he walked us through the basics of yoga, made sure we did each post correctly based on our own bodies. Mark is patient and has good sense of humor -- all of which made the session enjoyable. We signed up for more private lessons with Mark.Sep 2, 2016Verified
I worked with Mark when he was first starting his journey in the wellness industry, although not in the direct way that he is now. Beyond his limitless knowledge of food, body, and spirit, Mark is exceptionally patient and present. Somehow, Mark helped me to develop a deeper awareness of my journey by just remaining present and holding a non-judgemental space during a very crucial time in my development. He is my dear friend to this day and I am so grateful for his presence in this business. I can't say enough about him.Dec 4, 2014
As a professional dancer I am always a bit leary of taking Mass movement classes of any kind. I was lucky enough to take yoga classes with Mark Staley when he was teaching in the studio in Shadyside. He is a warm, generous teacher - clearly creating a professional but yet open environment that was supportive for the very diverse level of Yoga Practitioners that were in the class. Providing clear direction and inspiration as well as group and individual comments. His sense of concern, passion, and physical understanding was evident from the very beginning through to the end of each class.Dec 4, 2014
Mark is, by far, one of my favorite instructors. His sequence is designed to challenge and calm at the same time. My brain is usually confused until it finally shuts off and all I'm left with is my breath.Dec 4, 2014
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Your first class with me is always free! Private session get less expensive when you buy them in packages of 5 or 10 and I'm happy to include a spouse, friend or significant other who would like to practice with you as part of the package. If you would like to create your own 'Yoga Club" we can work that out as well.. I'm here for you!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?First we meet and talk about your intentions and goals and see if I am the right person for you to work with. We'll work with Asana (poses) and breath work in the beginning to help you set a solid foundation for your practice. Each time we meet, we adjust and take what we have learned about your needs and abilities, to create a practice that is tailored to you!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?My approach to guiding you through the practice of yoga is a confluence of different movement disciplines Ive studied over the years. As an actor Ive studied many different movement modalities including the Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Approach, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Intuitive Dance Rhythms and many more. Most of these find their way into each class and if you are familiar with any of these techniques or approaches to movement you will recognize some. Although I rarely, if ever, teach these techniques directly during the practice, I have learned to accept all approaches to movement as valuable; building a powerful toolbox and vocabulary that will be available as needed for each individual situation.
