Nate was advertised to work the Drexel Hill area. And I needed a skilled handyman to attach and secure the right pedal on my exercise bike. His reviews were limited, but all 5 star.
My original inquiry indicated work could be done on Sunday, 11/14. When he contacted me, he said due to the travel distance he couldn't come out until 11 am on Wed, 11/17. That was later than I expected, but I agreed. He also sent me a message on Tues morning 11/16 to confirm my appointment, and I replied all things were still go!
When I checked my email around 7 am on Wed, 11/17, I saw I had a message from Nate. He said his wife was very sick and he had to stay home. Therefore my appointment was canceled and had to be rescheduled. I replied back offering my condolences about his wife, and asked when could he reschedule.
He responded a couple hours later saying that the earliest he could come out was mid-week Wed, 11/24 because he was booked earlier in the week. And, he added that was depending on whether he did not have to reschedule any more appointments, which I assumed would be due to his wife being sick!
At this gesture I got very suspicious! It sounded as if he was laying the groundwork down to miss another appointment! And I got the distinct impression he was trying to uncommit himself from doing my job, for whatever reason! So. I messaged him back telling him I was not off work next week, and I was going to have to cancel. As I said, I believe that's what he wanted all along, for whatever reason!
