Introduction: One thing that makes me fairly unique as a teacher is my diversity of interests and experience in terms of musical genres. I've found that classical training has helped me sing in the pop/rock realm just as much as the world of arias and art songs, and I know it can do the same for my students. Also, many voice instructors in my local area have degrees in general music or music education. While one can certainly teach with that background, performance degrees like mine typically include more training in private teaching than education degrees do. Strange, but true. Every client is different! Different voice types, levels of experience, and sets of goals all keep me on my toes.

I give Ian 5 stars simply for the adaptability in his teaching style. He definitely knows his stuff about singing, and the more that he works with a student (like myself), he is able to find the root of some of the quirks that one may have and iron out the kinks. If you some kind of a performance, he is more than willing to help in any way he can, and if you don't have much but still want to learn to improve, he can help you learn that. From music theory, diction, technique, whatever you want, he will answer it, or go looking for the answer himself. Great confidence booster. 5/5 flat out.

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

While some teachers are better than others, ultimately, what customers (students) get out of voice lessons is directly proportional to what they put into them. Regular practice and a willingness to learn and explore are essential in vocal study.
