Nicole Cochran is a Juilliard-trained pianist and organist offering personalized piano lessons for students ages 7 through adult in Western Pennsylvania. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals, learning style, and musical interests, with an emphasis on fundamentals, creativity, confidence, and long-term musical growth.
Nicole serves on the piano faculty at Slippery Rock University and works with beginning, intermediate, and advanced students in a supportive and encouraging environment where students can develop both skill and enjoyment at the piano.
Instruction may include classical repertoire, music theory, sight reading, ear training, technique, jazz, video game music, musical theater, and contemporary repertoire based on each student’s interests and goals.
Students receive individualized materials and structured guidance to support consistent progress between lessons. Organ instruction is also available for interested students upon request.

I've been taking pianolessons with Nicole Cochran for a while now, and I can honestly say she’s been a wonderful teacher. What I appreciate most is that she doesn’t rush me—she works at my pace, which means a lot, especially as an older adult learner. She’s patient, encouraging, and always takes the time to explain things in ways that make sense to me.
Even when I feel stuck or frustrated with a piece, she never pushes or criticizes—she just calmly helps me find a way through it. I’ve seen real progress because of that supportive approach. This was my daughter’s very first year taking pianolessons, and Nicole made it such a positive and encouraging experience for her. From the start, she was so patient and kind, always cheering Ellie on and helping her build confidence with each new song. Nicole is a great teacher! She makes sure you understand everything that is taught before moving on to the next lesson. She makes sure to provide tips for easier playing. She makes playing the piano a lot of fun! Nicole is easy to communicate with and is very helpful when you ask questions.

Nicole was a great instructor for my daughter. She tailored the lessons and assignments around my daughter's goal of becoming a better choir accompanist and encouraged her to try new techniques. She answered specific questions my daughter asked and used a variety of songs styles to teach instead of just going through a book. Nicole was approachable and easy to reach if conflicts arose. Nicole makes the most out of every lesson. She is friendly and easy to work with. Nicole is very knowledgeable and suggests multiple strategies for practicing, ensuring that each student has the best opportunity to succeed. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
During the first lesson, I take time to learn about each student's musical background, goals, and interests. I also assess current skill level in order to recommend appropriate materials and create a personalized lesson plan moving forward.
