As a qualified and experienced high school English and adult ESL teacher, I work with you to build speaking and/or writing skills for success in daily life in the U.S., school, and the workplace. One-on-one tutoring is a joy for me, and I love seeing my clients make progress. I worked with Carolyn to help me become clearer when I speak english. It was a real pleasure, and, more importantly, very useful!
Before I took the classes, I was facing situations when people couldn't understand me, but I couldn't understand why. She helped me identify my mistakes, understand the difference between french and american english sounds (stupid as it sounds, there was a lot of differences I was not aware of after 30 years of learnign english), and provide me a lot of material and recommendation to keep on improving.
I would strongly recommend Carolyn for anybody interested in improving his/her english skills since she was exactly the person I needed to help me.

"I hired Carolyn as my daughters tutor in 2012. My daughter was struggling with English in school and was very open to get some help but only with the right teacher (we had a failed attempt before Carolyn). Carolyn adapted her teaching style to my daughters needs and was gentle and supportive in her approach. We saw results immediately, with grades improving after a few lessons. Best part though, since then, my daughter loves English it is now one of her favorite subjects."

Carolyn had been my English tutor for many years. I had lessons with her in home setting as well as via Skype. Both approaches were highly effective.
She definitely helped me to improve my English. We worked a lot with my work relating areas and her lessons certainly improved my work communications. She regularly did assessment to find areas I need to improve and we worked successfully to master my English deficiencies.
She helped me a lot as well as an editor for my work relating articles. She has vast knowledge at this area.
I highly recommend at least having a trial lesson with her before considering someone else as a teacher.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have an hourly rate for weekly or occasional lessons, and a discounted rate for a series of 10 lessons, to be paid in advance or on an agreed-upon schedule. My rate for tutoring at your place or neighborhood may be higher than tutoring near me or online, depending on distance.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to start with a brief meeting (online since Covid). If the customer hires me, I begin the process by getting to know the person and finding out what he/she wants from tutoring and getting a sense of how to work together. I also listen for what language needs the person has, and I start planning. I try to make it clear that we are partners in the learning process, and always welcome questions and requests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have advanced degrees in English and Education and additional qualification courses in English (honours specialist) and ESL (specialist) from the Ontario Ministry of Education. I received on-the-job training in Adult Literacy, and have been an instructor myself at the University of Toronto and York University. I have also given conference presentations on effective tutoring.
