Hello,
I'm Ivy. I have advanced proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and specialized training in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages. I received my TCSOL certification from the Teachers College of Columbia University in 2020. I am confident that I can help you achieve excellent pronunciation and acquire communicative competence in Mandarin Chinese. Over the years, I have taught Mandarin Chinese in all levels, beginners to advanced learners, academic and business Chinese.
Do you know that Mandarin Chinese has no conjugation, no tenses, no singular and plural, and no feminine and masculine? Learning Chinese can be both interesting and fun.
In my Mandarin classes, I prioritize my learners' individual characteristics and needs, allowing us to set the right learning goals from the start. I create inspiring and motivating syllabi for each student, incorporating real-life contexts that are meaningful to you.

I'm a heritage speaker and I sought Ivy's help to improve my reading and writing. Since beginning Chinese lessons with her in the spring, my vocabulary has noticeably improved, but what's more notable is how much more comfortable I am speaking in Mandarin with family and community members. The approach that Ivy is taking with me involves reading from a variety of sources (textbooks, news articles, interviews, short videos), which I find useful for developing a general mastery of the language.

My 12 year old daughter has been taking lessons with Ivy for almost a year. Ivy prepares lessons very well and she is always very responsive. Her lessons are not only teaching pinyin and Chinese characters, but also adding Chinese culture, stories etc. into it. My daughter enjoys the lessons very much. Yesterday she was watching a video of 李子柒，which I found very interesting myself. I highly recommend Ivy.

I've been really enjoying my lessons with Ivy. When I was first looking for a tutor, I chose her because I felt she understood the area I needed help in better than other tutors. She has tailored her lessons well to my needs and is always well-prepared. She knows how to correct my pronunciation in a way that doesn't feel discouraging. My 6 year old son has been working with Ivy since March and loves his biweekly Mandarin classes. Ivy has showed him the patience and kindness that he needs to continue working hard. Ivy works at his speed and really takes time to make it fun for him. I highly recommend Ivy as your instructor as this language is difficult to grasp to say the least.
