Introduction: The sacred Wudang Mountains are the birthplace of Taijiquan (often as tai chi). This fusion of traditional martial skill with Daoist long-life practices is the fundamental principle of all the wudang martial arts, including the famed wudang swordstyle. Our school offers wudang swordsmanship and martial arts in a traditional atmosphere as taught by one of the only non-Chinese ever recognized by Wudang Dragon Gate Sect. Additionally, the Wudang Swordsmanship Academy offers traditional Daoist health and longevity practices, along with a vast array of social and cultural studies programs. Our school aims to instill the traditional character traits of wudang swordsmanship while maintaining a healthy and fit body. The skill of self-defense is to protect the body and one's health. Students begin their training in one of our four primary martial arts disciplines: traditional tai chi (as taught at the birthplace of the art), internal wudang gongfu, youth kung fu, or our eight trigram boxing. All of these disciplines offer students a traditional practice that is both internal and external, mind and body. Students begin with reworking their relationship with their body, and then progress forward into martial competence. For those without concern for self-defense practices and martial skill, we also offer a rich study in Daoist longevity and health practices. Ranging in classes, from meditation to qigong, our programs in self-health and cultivation are all driven by Daoist studies reaching back over four thousand years. For those recovering from injury, have limited movement due to aging or lifestyle, or those with ongoing physical pain are encouraged to try out tai chi for health program, removing the concerns of self-defense and focusing on the time invested on healing and transforming injury to experience. Meanwhile, high-impact classes, like cardio kung fu and wudang kicking are additional programs for martial fitness and finesse. We hope you can come visit us, and take a look at our new facilities. We have seating for parents and guests to relax, with WiFi access and complimentary tea. We encourage students to come in on their off time and study at our student library or use the halls for mediation, study, homework, or discussion. We often are open when students call for additional personal training time.
