Working with Michael has been an enjoyable experience. Whenever we are going through monologues, he creates an open and positive environment to act in. He utilizes a plethora of different acting methods to not only help me become more aware of what I am saying, but to convey that to an audience. In addition to acting, Michael has also helped me with my vocal technique. He has taught me how to sing in a healthier way, and got me to belt in one lesson after many years of failed attempts on my own.Nov 29, 2018
Michael is an excellent singing and acting coach. His musical talents and dedication to his students inspire success. He helped my son develop his performing skills and prepared him for auditions at some of the best college musical theatre programs in the country. The results showed, as my son was accepted to his top school. I would recommend Michael highly.Feb 2, 2014
Michael has been a fantastic teacher for our daughter. He is excellent in his technical ability and how he motivates her in his lessons. Her progress is measurable and he had also built her confidence to perform. We have no hesitation to recommend Michael.Feb 11, 2014
Michael worked with my daughter on voice and monologue coaching for Musical Theatre college auditions. Thanks to Michael, my daughter was accepted into many highly competitive top BFA programs, including Boston Conservatory and Penn State. Michael is simply amazing! He increased her range, her confidence, and most importantly, her ability to really perform each song and monologue. His dedication to his students is tireless throughout the audition process - choosing material, adapting songs to fit pre-screen requirements, filming professional quality pre-screens, and audition tips! He does it all! He truly understands the audition and college application process for acting and musical theatre. Michael connected with my daughter and was able to bring out the best in her with his musical and coaching skills, his dedication to her success, and his sense of humor. As my daughter begins the next chapter of her Musical Theatre journey at Penn State, we will always be truly thankful for finding Michael Bihovsky! She found a mentor and a friend that gave her support and encouragement as well as amazing voice and acting lessons!Aug 9, 2019
Michael is very intuitive about what you need assistance with. He heard me sing just once and was able to pinpoint all of my issues. He helped extend my belt in only ten minutes. He makes you feel really at ease and comfortable when singing. In regards to acting, Michael helped improve my confidence and taught me about the differences in performing for the camera and on stage. He is always open about his experiences in the industry and is great at giving advice. Michael is talented, passionate, and very observant. I'm so impressed that he knew just how to help me without me having to state all of my problems. It allowed us to get to work right away. I've never had a disappointing session with Michael. He always exceeds my expectations. I recommend him to anyone, whether you're a beginner or have been in the industry for a long time.May 31, 2017
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My hourly rate is set at $80/hour lesson (which I charge rounding down to the closest 15 minutes when going for longer or shorter than one hour). This price remains fixed no matter how many different teaching subjects you need me to address in a given lesson. I specialize equally in voice, acting (especially the combination of the two), accents/dialects, songwriting, music theory, directing, and more. In other words, I am many teachers for the price of one!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I do require an audition (any video of you singing with accompaniment is fine) before accepting you as a new student. If I feel like we would be a good match, then we will schedule our first lesson, so that you can be assured firsthand that I will be a good fit for you as well. For our first lesson, I will have you bring 2-3 memorized pieces in different styles/genres that you already feel pretty confident with, but which you also feel have room for improvement. This will give me the chance to get to know what you already do well (if it ain't broke, don't fix it!), while also giving me an opportunity to try out multiple methods of vocal and/or acting technique to discover which techniques you best respond to. From there, I develop an approach that is catered specifically to your strengths, weaknesses, and style of learning.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I graduated NYU with a degree in musical theater performance and composition, and studied orchestration at Juilliard - in addition to two decades' worth of private lessons in voice and acting in both Philadelphia and New York City. I have been acting and singing professionally since I was a teenager, and have both directed and starred in award-winning theater and film productions.
