- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA), I have been immersed in the deaf community from an early age. Both of my parents are deaf, and I come from a large deaf family that spans five generations. This includes grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and godparents. Growing up in such an environment has provided me with a deep understanding and appreciation of deaf culture and communication. In addition to my personal experience, I have pursued formal education and training to enhance my skills and qualifications: Rhode Island State Certifications I have completed several training certifications through the state of Rhode Island specifically tailored for working with the deaf community. These programs have equipped me with essential skills and knowledge necessary for effective communication and advocacy. RIDHH Services I have also undergone training with the Rhode Island Department of Health and Human Services (RIDHH), focusing on services and support for the deaf and hard of hearing. This training has broadened my understanding of the resources available and the best practices for providing assistance to individuals who are deaf. Court System Interpreter Certification To further expand my professional capabilities, I have obtained certification as a court system interpreter. This rigorous training has prepared me to accurately and effectively facilitate communication in legal settings, ensuring that the rights of deaf individuals are upheld.
