About

Thinking about an ADU or tiny home? You've probably already discovered that "small house" does not mean "simple project." Between zoning, utilities, permits, budgets, engineering, and approximately 47 decisions about where one plumbing line should go, there's a lot to navigate. That's where The Kirchoff Group, Inc. comes in. We specialize in custom tiny homes, ADUs, and unique residential projects under 1,500 square feet, helping homeowners move from the "Wouldn't it be great if..." stage through planning, permitting, construction, and completion. I'm Matt Kirchoff, a licensed General Contractor and Real Estate Broker with a background in mechanical engineering, an Executive MBA, and eight years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. That experience helps me look at your project from several angles at once—construction, engineering, cost, feasibility, and property value—while explaining the complicated parts in plain English. You bring the idea and questions. I'll bring the experience, curiosity, and a tape measure.

Matt was great. I had him complete some minor repairs that came up in an inspection while selling my property. I need him to do it while I wasn’t physically there at the property.

He made the process easy by communicating upfront what he planned to do, and made sure to communicate as new issues came up. I’d work with him again.

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I'm not going to be the lowest cost provider you can find. I have an attention to detail unrivaled by most, and I'm very efficient with my time. If I'm unable to tackle a project.... I'm not going to beat around the bush and lead you on.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like the opportunity to connect over email/phone to best understand your project scope and what factors are most important to you. Of course this is less critical with smaller projects, although I appreciate the time to discuss and make sure I'm a good fit.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from UW Madison, and an Executive MBA from the Milwaukee Lubar School of Business. I'm a licensed Real Estate Broker in Wisconsin & California, as well as a licensed Home Inspector in Wisconsin. I've taken extensive classes in all types of welding processes, and I served 8 years in the US Army Corps of Engineers as a Heavy Construction Equipment Sergeant.
