FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My standard pricing is $25 an hour, for any lessons. Some places charge extra for guitar setup and strings. My first lesson, I will access the guitar, setup the guitar, and if necessary restring the guitar at the next lesson(at your cost), assuming the factory strings won't hold a tune, which is rare depending on the guitar. I will teach tuning(unless the student already knows this much, I will show him/her alternate ways to get perfectly in tune). My teaching style varies from student to student. I will teach everything from songs and scales and chords, to minor repairs, setups, and wiring and soldering(using one of my project guitars, I wouldn't dare use a students guitar for soldering or wiring practice.). I'm a soup to nuts instructor, both the musical aspect, to the set up, physical aspect.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I ensure a comfortable rapport with any family. I present any requested documents. I will obligingly submit to any and all background checks. I will present my teaching methods in writing to all parties involved. I will present my guidelines regarding payment and educational responsibilities. The signed contract regarding educational commitments, any student of mine, must retain a passing grade in all subjects, from grade 7 to grade 12. Any student not maintaining a passing grade in all subjects must present a written explanation regarding why, to continue lessons. Guitar and Bass are fun diversions, however education is the most important issue. Essentially, keep up your grades and I will teach. Guitar and bass playing can lead to a lucrative lifestyle, but nothing will prepare a person for a successful life than good, solid education.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
30+ years of guitar playing, 20+ years of bass playing. I've been playing in local bands since I was 16. Took 10 years of music courses between high school and college. I'm the cheif songwriter in every band I've ever played in, I have training in Orchestration, Classical Vocal Training and sound engineering, plus I have opened for and played backup bass and guitar for many professional bands. I'm classically trained in: Voice, Guitar, Bass Guitar, music theory, Orchestration Theory, sound engineering, band recordings, production, and overall recording and mastering experience. I've been teaching guitar lessons off and on for almost 10 years, and I've also added guitar, pedal, and amp repairing to my list of abilities.
